UPDATE TO COME
UPDATE:

6:00 p.m. Back from PetSmart. No adoptions today but a wonderful woman fell in love with Silver and may be back at the PetSmart next week (Saturday) to see Silver again--this makes the visit all worth while. And several nice people were interested in the puppies, especially Tasha and Little Dee Dee. Buddy and Betsy had people interested in them too but it seemed that everyone had to check with a spouse as to whether or not they also might like the dog or puppy. Lots of folks said they'd be back to see us next Saturday at the same PetSmart--Preston Road, one long block north of LBJ.

We're all back home now and the candidates for adoption are all back in their kennels doing what they do every night at this time. It seemed as if all the dogs enjoyed their outting of having people and kids pet them most of the afternoon. I wonder if the other dogs wonder what happened, where they've been.

WE'D LIKE TO GIVE A VERY SPECIAL THANK-YOU TO ARLENE, BOB, AND SCOTT CLAYTON, who on the spur of the moment drove all the way from Fort Worth (a good two-hour drive) just to help us take the dogs to the PetSmart Dog Adoption Afternoon in Dallas. Then they happily helped bring the dogs home again and just now left for the long drive back to Fort Worth. Arlene just spent months organizing a big fund-raising event for our shelter and another no-kill shelter, which event took place Friday night, and then Arlene surprised us just one day later (yesterday) with her offer to help us for the doggie adoption day today, and the Claytons have offered to help us on future Saturdays. WOW! Thank you again!

AND A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO DANA AND FRIENDS FROM THE ROWLETT ANIMAL SHELTER for allowing our Straydog shelter to join your group on these Pet Adoption Days. How very kind of you.

Our new plan is to take several of these wonderful dogs every Saturday to the PetSmart adoption days, and we are forming a new group of volunteers to become our "Straydog Angels."

These much needed "Angel" volunteers will help us at our Doggie Adoption Days by helping us to care for the dogs while we are there (taking them on walks and giving water and answering people's questions) and helping out with home visits.

Please call (and/or email) if you would like to help the dogs by becoming a "Straydog Angel" for Doggie Adoption Days -- (903) 479-3497 just ask for me, Pat. We'd love to have your help.

WORKS!

No more puppies! No more kittens!

Until all the dogs (and all the cats) now alive find good homes, let us allow that no more be conceived!

Please help us get this message across to the millions of unaware Americans who continue to allow their pets to procreate!

If we can get everyone to spay and neuter their pets, the overpopulation problem will go away, and no more healthy, young companion animals will ever again be killed simply because there aren't enough homes available to adopt them.

As always, complete financial records are available upon request.

Dog food, veterinary expenses and kennel crew wages have been running over $1,800 per week, and we are quite often literally paying this week's expenses with this week's donations. We, Pat and Bill Arnold, receive no remuneration whatsoever for any work we do for our no-kill shelter, which includes managing it. (Bill pays all our bills and living expenses from his salary from his regular job in Dallas.)

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

We continue to thank those who continue to write us such encouraging letters and e-mail messages letting us know that you believe in what we are doing at Straydog (our Happy Home for Strays) as we continue to provide a decent life (as long as may be necessary) for each of our now 49 rescued dogs!

Please take a look at some of our newsletters (click on links below) and see the original article in The Dallas Morning News --on the Internet at "dallasnews.com/archives" (search for Pat Arnold on March 13, 1997).
