Pat's Daily Dog Log continued ...
Filling doggie holes keeps part of the kennel team busy
For years now whenever we look into the huge holes that the dogs continually dig in the middle of their kennels, we can't help but wonder, "Where does all that sandy dirt go?!"
Mary and Michael are the champion diggers, that's for sure! Everyday they dig huge pits (a good four feet deep and several feet long), which the kennel team has to refill.
And then there are Rocky and Ginger's six-foot-long tunnels that are so hard to fill. These two dogs do a great job of digging these tunnels, and the tunnels curve so beautifully. We have to fill them quite often before they get too big and too long and curvier, or there'd be no telling where the dog's would end up! One time before we discovered their "project," Rocky and Ginger had tunneled almost all the way over to their neighbors' (Dallas and Julie's) kennel. We're pretty sure that these four dogs ending up together would not have been a good idea, as there are often barking and growling spats between their two kennels.
While I was at the clinic with Duke, Randy and Juan were very busy filling Mary and Michael's dog holes with some fresh sand.

Ginnie pulls double doggie-duty to help out the guys
While Randy and Juan worked on the hole-filling job, Ginnie pulled the combination duty of walking the dogs to the park and cleaning their kennels (for the second cleaning of the morning). (It was Lisa's day off.)
When there is extra work to do, everyone works together and pitches in to help out the other kennel team members.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 28 2000 Doggie Adoption Day--Cindy is Adopted
Cindy found her perfect family today:
It was close to noon when a young couple with their little 18-month-old daughter arrived at PETsMART. They had come hoping to find a family pet, a gentle, affectionate dog who would be a good companion for their little girl.
When they saw beautiful Cindy, the three-year-old Black Lab being walked outside the front of the store by a Straydog volunteer, they were instantly drawn to her and came in to find out all about this precious dog.

We told them Cindy's story, and when we brought Cindy back in the store to meet the family, they bonded instantly. Cindy is a very gentle, affectionate dog, and she loves attention. She is the perfect pet for a family with children. This wonderful family wanted to adopt Cindy and give her a loving home as their house pet.
The mom and dad and little girl walked around the store shopping for Cindy. Their cart was literally overloaded with nice things for her when they went to check out. I had never felt such a soft doggie bed! It was huge. Tonya, the mom, said that when they saw the bed, they put it on the floor to see if it was big enough for Cindy, and Cindy got right on it and lay down on her back for a tummy rub! All of us could picture their little girl snuggling up with Cindy on the fluffy doggie bed.
After the family's shopping trip, volunteers John Pippin, M.D. and Susan Southerland and I made the home visit with Cindy. All went great. Cindy is another success story of a rescued dog finding her perfect home.
Cindy's adoption makes 29 dogs adopted out so far this year:
Abby, Nickie, Snuggles, Skipper, Honey, Rex, Tasha, Charlie, Shane, DeeDee, Buddy, Betsy, Binks, Spunky, Silver, Blackie, Sammy, Tony, Emily, Buster, Pixie, Dixie, Jake, Raven, Sara,Terri, Stevie & Pete and Cindy, who was adopted today. (Buddy, Betsy and Emily are back with us again, which makes the total successful adoptions 26.)
Thanks to all of you Adoption Day Doggie-Sitters!
We had two new volunteers at today's adoption day at PETsMART, and we'd like to thank Kim and David Love for their help. Also thanks to Marci and the regulars, Susan Devers, Dr. Pippin and Susan Southerland.
If any of you would like to volunteer your dog-caring services to help us out during our Saturday Petsmart Adoption Days, we'd love to hear from you. Please call me at (903) 479-3497 (or email me at straydog@straydog.org) if you are able to help. Thank you, Pat.
(Unfortunately Cindy was returned to us Monday night. Story to come next Sunday.)
