Excerpts from Pat's Daily Dog Log . . .
MONDAY OCTOBER 23 2000 Stevie and Pete continue doing great at their new home!
(Continued from the last entry of last week's edition.) The "boys" have been with their new mom and dad for more than a week now, and they have made themselves at home and have adapted to their new life beautifully. They are now royally pampered house pets and "totally run the place" according to their dad.
Tixie goes to vet for mini checkup
Trixie has had soft stools the last five days. This happens occasionally to the dogs and usually clears up within a day or two. After five days, however, it was time to take Trix to the doctor to see what the problem might be.

By 10:30 a.m. we were back home again. The doctor could find nothing wrong and suggested I bring her back for another exam in two days.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 24 2000 Stevie and Pete continue to do "just fine"
Per Mike's nightly phone call these fellows have certainly become very pampered house doggies. They are very happy, content, and much loved.
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 25 2000 Trixie goes back to vet
Trixie went to the clinic for her second mini checkup and was given medication to help balance her intestinal flora problem. Other than this minor upset she is just fine. She also loves to go for rides in the van!
THURSDAY OCTOBER 26 2000 Katie needs extra warmth added to her shelter and dog house on damp, cool days
Nine-year-old rescued Granma dog, Katie, who is also lovingly referred to as Sassy, is showing signs of arthritis flaring up on these damp, cool mornings. It's getting harder and harder for her to get up from her lying down position. A heating lamp to add warmth to her shelter would be a big help as winter approaches.

In order to make it possible to run the extension cord to her kennel shelter for the heating lamp, we moved Katie to the kennel closest to the house, and we moved Tommy from that kennel to the kennel where Cindy and Duke were, and we moved Cindy and Duke to the vacant end kennel, where Sara had been living before her adoption. There was a lot to do to day.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 27 2000 Duke gets the all clear sign: No more heartworms!
Duke has been at our Happy Home for Strays for nearly two months. (I had found Duke walking along the highway.) We had Duke neutered and vaccinated and treated for sarcoptic mange and then for heartworms and a bladder infection. While examining Duke, the doctors also discovered that this precious dog had also been shot with pellets.

By 11:00 this morning Duke and I were back from the clinic. This follow-up blood test showed the heartworms were totally gone. Wonderful news! Now Duke is ready to be adopted too.
If any of you would like to volunteer your dog-caring services to help us out during our Saturday Petsmart Adoption Days, we'd love to hear from you. Please call me at (903) 479-3497 (or email me at straydog@straydog.org) if you are able to help. Thank you, Pat.
We continue to thank all of you for your financial and moral support, which has made it possible for us to save the lives of these wonderful dogs, give them the care they need and adopt many of them into good, loving homes.
