MONDAY FEBRUARY 12 2001 Penny goes for checkup and vaccination #2

Puppy Penny still has a very stuffy nose, tho she has been on antibiotics for two weeks now, so I figured I'd get this checked out this morning since I needed to take her for her second puppy vaccination--if it's okay to give vaccinations to a pup with a puppy "cold."

Penny is fine, the doctor said after giving her a checkup and taking her temperature (which was normal), and he added that sometimes it can take a long time for these upper respiratory infections to clear up. Now little Penny is finally out of quarantine, and we shouldn't have to worry about any more life-threatening problems, which is a tremendous relief! We just need to get her stuffy nose cleared up.

George's dad says all is great with George--except he ate his health records

I talked with George's new dad, Larry, this morning, and Larry said that all is going just beautifully with George, who has been with Larry over a week now. "He is getting very spoiled," the dad said, which we all think is great news to hear, and Larry wondered if we could send him another copy of George's health records, because George had "accidentally" chewed up the copy we had given Larry during the adoption. We'll get another copy in the mail right away.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 13 2001 Adopted fellows, Stevie and Little Pete, are doing fine!

Stevie (the two-year-old blind Retriever mix) and his best buddy, Little Pete, were adopted together several months ago (see our October 15, 2000 Sunday Update) after being here at our Happy Home for Strays for two years. We hear often from their "dad," Mike, about how "the kids" are doing, and all continues to go along just fine. Steve and Pete have the entire run of the big, beautiful house, and Steve has no problem going from room to room as he pleases.

Mike and Ann are such wonderful people. They welcomed Stevie and Pete into their home with open arms. They have had a few "ups and downs" helping Stevie adjust (due to Steve being totally blind), but Mike has always been very positive and optimistic about the problems that occasionally pop up with Steve. "Well, seems we have a new challenge here to work through," Mike reports whenever some new problem situation arises.

The latest report from Mike is that Steve and Pete now know the word "blanky" for when it's time for them all to go to bed at night. When it's bed time, Mike and Ann say to the boys, "Get on your blanky," and off the boys trot to the bedroom. Little Pete is the protector, Mike says, and Pete won't settle down at night until Mike, Ann and Stevie are all in their beds. After Little Pete sees that everyone is settled in, then he goes to his blanky.

Thanks, Mike and Ann, for giving the boys the best possible home they could ever have!
