All is wonderful at Helen's new home!
We talked with Helen's new dad, Neal, today, and he said that the long ride home was smooth sailing, that Helen slept most all of the way, and that all was going along beautifully with Helen.
Neal went on to say that after he and Darla (and the family) arrived home, they thought they'd probably be up with Helen all night, thinking she might be frightened of her new surroundings and of suddenly becoming a house pet, but they had no problems at all! Everything went amazingly well.
Helen sleeps soundly all night--on Neal's side of the bed!
After finally getting the kids settled in bed for the night the tired parents were ready for bed too. Helen began the night sleeping on the floor beside the bed, but when Neal got up during the night for just a few moments, he came back to find Helen sleeping on the bed--not at the foot of the bed, but in Neal's side of bed all snuggled up close to Darla!
Neal added that he was so glad that Helen was sleeping (because he was so tired himself) he let Helen have the bed, and he went to the couch for the rest of the night.
Helen is great with the kids and loves to be around the whole family, often leaning against her new mom and dad when she is beside them or walking close to them when they are all in the yard.
As we were about to end our conversation, Neal said that Helen was sleeping on one end of their couch and their other dog, Winston, was sound asleep at the other end. (Neal is going to try and take their picture!)
The Forts are thrilled that all is working out so well with Helen, and they will keep us posted.
Sweetie goes to her new home at 11:00 this morning
Nina came this morning to adopt Sweetie and was surprised at how much Sweetie had grown! Nina had already adopted Foxhound, Beauty, from us last March intending for Beauty to become a companion to Nina's dog, Rusty, (which worked out beautifully), and now Sweetie would be joining their family too.
Nina will call (or email) us later today to give us the update on how the introductions went. One thing we do know is that Sweetie will be very, very happy with her new mom and doggie friends!
LATER UPDATE
We just heard from Sweetie's new mom, Nina, and all is going along beautifully with Sweetie in her new home with her two new doggie friends, Beauty and Rusty. In our excitement of having Sweetie see her new mom, Nina, and getting all of Sweetie's paperwork together and her new collar on, we forgot to send along Sweetie's stuffy toy, but Nina said that there are so many other toys for Sweetie to play with she is very Happy!
Sweetie hasn't gotten the hang of the doggie-door yet, but it probably won't be long before she is charging out through it right along with her new companions.
I imagine that Sweetie will be sleeping in a people bed tonight, right alongside her new playmates--or her mom!
