Straydog
April 2003
Dear Friends,
Bill and I want to thank you very much for your extremely generous donations in the past, and we thank you in advance for any donation you can send now to our Happy Home for Strays.
We operate totally on your donations. A tremendous part of our operating fund (which is our only fund) goes toward our ever-growing vet bill for our many new arrivals. (And please remember that neither Bill nor I receive any salary or wages from Straydog Inc. All donations quite literally go to the dogs and their care. Complete financial records are available on request.)
If you follow my daily updates on our website, you may already know about most of our new arrival dogs. For those who don't have access to the Internet, here's a short summary of the stories of many of the new arrivals:
Mama Dog Laura and her son, Jesse-Bear (both pictured), were long-time strays at Tenison Golf Course in Dallas. It took many people and many rescue attempts before we were finally able to "catch" (rescue) first the son and then a week later the mother, and they are both here safe with us now.
Laura has an advanced case of heartworm disease, and our doctor is doing his best to save her life. Her son, Jesse, is fine, although still very timid and overly cautious around people.
Sally and Alice (also pictured) are two more new arrivals who were rescued together at the same golf course in Dallas. They are inseparable dogs. Sally and Alice were with us for less than two weeks, having been rescued together Sunday, March 10, 2003 and adopted together on Friday, March 21, 2003 when both dogs went to their wonderful new home. Alice has begun treatment for heartworm disease, which treatment her new mom and dad will follow up on.
Other new arrivals include little Puppy Corky, who was found along the roadside in a sealed box. Luckily a kindhearted person stopped to investigate the box, heard the crying from within and saved Corky's life. He's been treated for a severe case of mange and malnutrition and is becoming a healthy, adorable little puppy now.
Tina and Terry are eight-week-old Australian Shepherd puppies, who arrived a few weeks ago (on March 5, 2003). They are precious, furry little pups, and we're hoping it won't be long before they find their forever families.
Last week we took in a mother Lab and her eight little, four-week-old puppies. What a handful these fellas are! The pups are a precious mix of just about everything, and the mom, Rosie, is a gentle, lovable Black Lab.
Also Thursday, March 20 we took in a sickly, two-year-old Pit Bull female we've named "Nikki," who spent a few days at our vet clinic and is home with us now. The scars on her face and body show she has had a very rough life. Nikki also has severe hip dysplasia and an advanced case of heartworm disease, which our vet will treat after the dog has regained her
