One of the golf course stray pups is caught /rescued!
When Pam called me this morning to give me the update on the attempted rescue of the golf course strays, I was thrilled to hear that one of the six-month-old pups (whom the golf course employees call "Bear") had been caught in one of the bait traps this morning and Animal Control Officer Theresa was on her way to pick up the pup and take the fellow to the Animal Control shelter for the 72-hour waiting period (a state law to be sure the animal doesn't have rabies). Then Animal Control will be permitted to release the dog to us. Bear is the little fellow with the injured back leg, according to Pam, so we are all glad that at least Bear has been rescued. Now there are just three more to catch/rescue.
Bear appears to be okay
Then later this morning Theresa (the Dallas Animal Control officer) also called to tell me about the rescue of the pup, and that we'd be able to pick him up this Wednesday, and she'll call us again closer to that day to schedule the time we can pick him up. Theresa said the pup seems to be okay and is in fairly good condition and that the Animal Control vet will be checking on him.
For those of you who have inquired about where to send donations to help with the vet expenses for the family of golf course strays as they are rescued, there's a "Donations" link below, or you may simply send your donations to us or directly to our vet:
We welcome your financial assistance! Taking in four dogs at one time will be a tremendous expense. All four dogs will need their thorough checkups and vaccinations, and spay and neuter surgery will be in store for them once they are healthy, and it sounds as if the two dogs who are injured will need special medical care.
Thank you so much for any help you can give.
Theresa (from Dallas Animal Control) wants to visit our Happy Home for Strays
During our conversation the topic of our shelter (Straydog) came up, and Theresa suddenly realized that she had read one of the articles written about Straydog in The Dallas Morning News. She was impressed with what we do and wants to come and visit our shelter. If we are not totally "washed away" by all the rain we've been having, she may be coming for a visit this Monday.
EVENING UPDATE
No further news
It's after dark now, and there has been no more news of any further rescues of the golf course stray dog family. We were hoping that all four of the dogs could have been safely rescued by now. Hopefully it won't be much longer.
We have to cancel Adoption Day tomorrow (Saturday)
Because we are suddenly short-handed at our shelter due to three employees being out sick, Guy will be needed here this Saturday instead of making the trip to Dallas, so we will have to cancel our regular Saturday Adoption Day. If anyone is interested in adopting a dog or puppy, please call our shelter--anytime--to set up an appointment to come and see the many wonderful dogs and puppies here. Please call 903-479-3497 and ask for Pat.
