Another rescue mission is planned for the one remaining dog of the Tenison Golf Course Family of Strays

Most of you know that of the four dogs in this family, the mother dog, Mama Laura and her son, Jesse-Bear, have been rescued and are here with us now. The father dog, Papa Dog, was recently hit and killed by a car while attempting to cross a busy road near the golf course, and the remaining dog is Jesse-Bear's sibling, known as Lucy. Lucy has escaped capture (rescue) every time rescue attempts have been made for this family of strays, but none of us have given up trying to save her life, and another rescue mission is planned again for this upcoming week. What makes Lucy's being alone so sad is that now she is without her mommy, dad and big brother, Jesse. We just have to rescue her and soon.

Our newsletter is "hot off the press"; we'll give you the link to the PDF file after every piece is in the mail

Bill and I have been working on our newsletter every spare moment for weeks, and now that the short version is finished, we'll be getting it in the mail starting tomorrow. The newsletter is short because we are now in a state of emergency to get the mailer out with hopes that our plea for donations will bring in the much needed funds to help us keep our shelter going.

The company Bill used to work for continues to print our newsletters free of charge as their donation to our cause of rescuing stray dogs and pups, bringing them back to good health and finding them wonderful homes. Bill just drove to Dallas and back (71 miles each way) and brought the finished newsletters home for us, so now we will be busy stuffing them into envelopes, putting the labels on along with the 1,000 donated postage stamps, and we should be getting them all in the mail within the next few days. (Please remember we have to squeeze the doing of this mailing in the middle of a billion other mini-emergencies throughout the day here at Straydog.)

Newest arrival, Kimberly, is sick

Before I could start setting up to prepare for the stuffing of envelopes, I had to feed Rosie and her eight puppies, but in the middle of fixing their food for their third meal of the day, Snow fussed to go outside to go potty. I whisked her up and took her out to the play yard to take care of business while I finished preparing the mom and puppies' food, but as I passed our newest arrival Kimberly's kennel (she's in the quarantine kennel close to our house), she threw up. I hurriedly took Snow to the play yard and came back to check on Kimberly. There was also diarrhea in her kennel.

Puppy Kimberly is rushed to the doctor

I called Dr. Morton right away, and he said to bring her in immediately, so as usual, with everything happening at once whenever there is an emergency, I radioed Guy, who was outside taking care of other dog duties, to please come and bring Snow in for me and then please feed the mom and puppies. Then I gathered up little three-month-old Kimberly, and off we went to the clinic.

Kimberly is okay

Dr. Morton took a Parvo Test, which came out negative (the thought that it can sometimes give false readings bothers me, tho), but the doctor said we'd treat Kimberly just as we had treated Rex and Star yesterday, as having an intestinal upset, and he reminded me that these fellas are all puppies and puppies can get sick with all kinds of things (which I know, but it still bothers me). Then home we came.

I gave Kimberly her prescribed medicine, and Rex and Star theirs too, and Kimberly has already perked up a lot. We're thinking she will be okay tomorrow, just as little pups Rex and his sister, Star, were okay today. Maybe it's a 24 hour virus. ...
