Jesse-Bear's sister, Lucy, ALMOST rescued at Tenison Golf Course today

Guy left our shelter at 6:30 this morning (on his day off) to meet Pam Mitchell and another person at Tenison Golf Course in Dallas for yet another rescue mission to try to catch (rescue) Lucy, the remaining large pup of the family of four golf course stray dogs who had been living at the golf course for many months before Pam contacted us, which is how Straydog got involved with the rescues (and attempted rescues) of these dogs.

Most of you already know that we have the rescued mother dog, Laura, and Laura's son, Jesse-Bear, here at Straydog. The father dog was unfortunately hit and killed by a car a week ago Friday on a busy road near the golf course, and Jesse's sister, Lucy, is still on the loose at the golf course.

Lucy avoids rescue once again

After searching for several hours and nearly rescuing Lucy, Guy called about 2:00 this afternoon to report on the happenings. "We were so close to catching her," he said, but then she disappeared, totally out of sight, and after another two hours of searching they decided to call it a day.

Catching Miss Lucy is a quite a challenge, but we won't give up on her. If only this big pup could know how much we are trying to save her life!

Mama Dog Laura and son, Jesse-Bear, become more and more accustomed to their new home

Lucy's mom, Laura, is doing remarkably well. The fluid in her belly, caused from advanced heartworm disease, is totally gone now and she is slim and trim again. Her black fur glistens from all the nutritious food she's been eating, and she is happy and playful now. She comes to us for petting and hugs, and she loves to go to the big play yard for sniffing around fun.

Jesse also is a very friendly pooch now (with some of us), but this stubborn fellow still says "No!" to a trip to the play yard with his mom.

Jesse is a lovable fellow and comes right up to me and another female caregiver, for petting. He still acts very cautious around the men who work here, and this is probably caused by his memories of events that happened in his past.

Today when I went to leash up Laura to take her to the park, Jesse came right up to me too and let me pet him, as he's done for the last two days, and he stayed with me while I put the leash on Laura, but as I went to slip the cloth leash over Jesse's head, he backed away from me. I reached out again, but he backed away just far enough so I couldn't reach him. So, Laura and I went once again to the play yard without Jesse, and he barked his annoyance, as usual, either that he was left behind, or that his mom chose to go without him!

I bet he'll finally give in before the week is over!

Blind Dog Freckles has her eye socket/eyelid surgery today and she is doing fine

I took Freckles to the clinic this morning for her scheduled surgery to permanently close her eyelids, to avoid further, painful infections, and when I called this afternoon the vet tech said that Freckles came through the surgery just fine and was peacefully sleeping off the anesthetic. We'll leave Freckles at the clinic tonight and I'll pick her up tomorrow morning.
