Tomorrow's the Big Day for Blind Chubs and his sister, Cassie
We're all excited about our visitors tomorrow--the couple who are coming to meet Blind Puppy-Dog Chubs and his little sister, Cassie, to get acquainted with these two dogs before they adopt them. (We'll report on the introductions tomorrow evening.)
Update on Stevie (the blind retriever mix) and his seeing-eye buddy, Little Pete
Mike Nicholson and his wife Ann, are the loving, compassionate couple whose hearts went out to Blind Dog Stevie and Steve's seeing-eye buddy, Little Pete, when they read the story about Stevie almost three years ago in one of our newsletters. Stevie is a beautiful Golden Retriever mix, and his best buddy, Little Pete, is an adorable mix/mix fellow. From the second these two dogs met, they immediately became best friends and were (and are) inseparable.
Mike and Ann adopted Stevie and Little Pete from us a few months after multiple visits to get well acquainted with the two dogs, and when Steve and Pete finally went to the Nicholson home, the dogs instantly became extremely pampered house pets, and are now known as "the kids" of the Nicholson family.
Mike keeps in touch with us often by email, reporting about "his kids," and it's such a delight to read all the cute things Stevie and Pete get into, such as the hilarious story about Mike trying to dry Little Pete and Stevie's paws when "the kids" came in the house after an outing in the rain, or about the two dogs running up and down the hallway by Mike's office when he's trying to work, and how Little Pete won't go to bed at night until he walks around and checks to make sure that his mom and dad are in their bed and that Stevie is in his special sleeping place beside the big bed, and only when Little Pete sees that everyone is "where they belong" does Little Pete settle down for the night in his special place.
Sometimes Stevie "writes" us notes too
Mike reads our website every day, and he read about the couple coming tomorrow to visit with Blind Pup Chubs and his seeing-eye sister, Cassie. Mike said in an earlier note today to tell the couple, "The rewards of having a blind dog are endless." Later today Stevie "himself" sent the following message in answer to some of my questions to him:
Momma Pat......
We are all doing great now. Yes, I really like my doctor. I am a lot better with him than with my DAD. I let the doctor cut my toenails and everything, even stuff pills down my throat. My dad has to hide pills in some canned dog food to get me to swallow them.
No, I do not use the harness anymore. I always use my leash, but maybe Chubs would feel more secure with a harness for a while. I am very, very good about food on the table, which surprises my dad a lot, but one time I could not help myself, and I grabbed a rib off my dad's plate, but I gave it back when he told me to. The smell of those ribs just got to me.
We do hope you can come see us soon. It will be more quiet here, but I sure would like to visit the big yard again also. So would Little Pete. We run a lot in our dog run, but it's not the same as in the big play yard at Straydog. Take care and as always GOD bless you and Poppa Bill for saving so many little boys like me and Little Pete

PS: Attached is a picture of me with my new baby asleep in my arms; Pete got one too, and he likes his as much as I like mine.
