WEDNESDAY MAY 7 2003
While at the vet clinic with Misty and Julie this morning I saw Bishop, one of our former Straydog residents, who was visiting the vet clinic too!
Today I took Misty for her scheduled allergy injection and Julie, who is diabetic, to have her blood sugar level checked.
Because it was so hot outside this morning when I arrived at the clinic, there was no way I could leave one dog in the van while I took the other one in. Since Misty and Julie do not get along well together and could not be taken in together, let alone be in the same room together, I went in without the dogs to ask the receptionist if they had an extra room (or kennel space) available for Misty to wait in while the doctor saw Julie. The receptionist gave us two examining rooms, and this worked out fine. We put Misty in one room, where I left her after I got her feeling comfortable with the room, and I went back out for Julie, and she and I went to the second room, where I left her when I got her settled in.
Then I saw Bishop!
After I got "the girls" settled in their separate rooms, I went to get some medications from the receptionist at the front desk, and at the very moment that I was walking up to the counter a vet tech was bringing a Rottweiler mix fellow from the back to the waiting room to weigh him. I recognized the dog immediately! It was Bishop! He had been brought to our Happy Home for Strays several years ago by a desperate man who due to his health could no longer take care of Bishop, and we cared for the dog for a few years (as no one would adopt him) until the day our wonderful volunteer, Shannon, and her husband, John, adopted Bishop! Bishop could never have gone to a more wonderful home than Shannon and John's.
Bishop recognized me immediately too, and we had a wonderful reunion. While I hugged him he was giving happy whines showing that he recognized me, and he gave me slurpy doggie kisses as fast as he could! [Bill, the cameraman, will accompany Pat on all vet visits from now on!] It was so good to see Bishop again, and I later found out from Shannon that Bishop was there due to a tummy upset that Dr. Morton wanted to follow up on, and that Bishop is fine.
Julie's blood sugar level is too high
The results of the blood test the doctor took from Julie show that her blood sugar level is too high, and the doctor recommended she be given four more units of insulin during each of her two daily injections.

I'm concerned about Julie's eyes too
I showed Dr. Morton the little specks in both of Julie's eyes, which we just began to notice recently and which has caused us some concern, and Dr. Morton suggested that we take Julie to see the eye specialist, Dr. Paulsen, who has been Julie's eye doctor since he removed the cataracts from both her eyes and put in new lenses back in December 2001. Dr. Paulsen has been seeing Julie for periodic checkups.
I'll call Dr. Paulsen about Julie's eye examine, and mention our concern about the specks in her eyes to see if he thinks we should bring her in before her next scheduled appointment which is in June.
Misty has her injection, and home we came
There is not much to Misty's visits. She gets the injection and is ready for the ride back home. Both dogs love to ride in the van (in their travel crates), so there is never a problem taking them anywhere, and they are both the best behaved dogs anyone could ask for!
