Update on Sweet Sassy Katie
I know we've talked before about Sassy Katie needing a home, but I'm mentioning it again because every time I'm with Katie, I can't help but wish some wonderful person would adopt this precious older dog and give her a loving home life as the very pampered house pet she really deserves to be.
What makes me write about Katie today is that yesterday evening, after all the caring for the dogs had been finished for the day, I went out to Sassy Katie's kennel to visit with her for a while. (She chooses to be the only dog in her kennel so we try to give her as much extra attention as possible.) Katie was happy to see me and eagerly ate the dog treats I gave her while I petted her. I noticed Katie had a small mat behind one ear and another on her tail, and her toenails needed trimming, again. (All of this type of grooming has to be done by the vet techs at our vet clinic because Katie won't allow us to do it.) I slipped the cloth leash over her head, and she trotted happily to the big play yard with me while I was thinking I'd have to remember to make a vet appointment for Katie for the coming morning.
By 9:30 this morning Katie and I arrive at the clinic for Katie to be beautified!
Laurie is one of the vet techs at the clinic, and she already knows Katie pretty well because she's worked on the trimming of her nails a few times before.
We put Katie on the lift table, and once the muzzle was placed on Katie's muzzle, the grooming began. I helped hold Sassy Katie while Laurie did the beautifying. The nail trim was first and then the mats were removed from her ears and tail which was followed by a thorough brushing of her thick, black curly fur, and then came the nice warm bath complete with a cream rinse. Wow, Katie looked beautiful after Laurie was finished.
Because it was so warm (hot! to me) outside this morning I brought Katie home still wet from her bath, but she was dry by the time we arrived at our shelter.
Katie went to the park to show off her new "summer-do" to her dog friends
As soon as we returned to the shelter I took Katie to the park so she could have her turn at running around. She immediately jumped in the doggie pool and splashed around for a few minutes and then trotted around the yard as if to show her dog neighbor friends how pretty she looks (even tho she was sopping wet again). She was happy, probably because she felt so clean, and she acted silly and frisky, which let us know she was feeling really good.

Michael finally had to take Katie back to her kennel so he could continue walking the rest of the dogs. Katie was happy, which makes us happy, but she still needs a loving home where she can be a pampered house pet.
Nikki and Rex have a ball together
Putting little puppy Rex with Nikki was the best thing in the world for Nikki. She is becoming a "different" dog now! She's very happy and so playful when she is with Rex, and she even comes to all of us more readily than ever before.
I tried to get some pictures of the two of them together as they played in the big play yard today, which Bill is processing as I type.

Old Blackie dog is much better!
Blackie slept soundly all night with no more episodes of being sick to his stomach, and this morning he was back to his spunky little self again. The doctor hadn't received the lab report yet, so I'll check with him again tomorrow.
