Bill Arnold's Daily Dog Log

WEDNESDAY JUNE 4 2003

Having been the editor of Pat's Daily Dog Log for the past several years has, of course, made me very familiar with Pat's style of writing and with the kinds of events she would write about every day, but this is going to be tough. I took about 20 dog photos yesterday and today, but we've been so busy with all the things a family is busy with after a tragedy like this that I haven't been able to process them.

The kennel team members/caregivers have reported that all the dogs seem to realize that something is different, but the daily routine goes on, and all the dogs seem happy.

Little Lassie has a seizure, and Shannon rushes her to the clinic

At about eleven this morning we all heard Rhonda call over the walkie-talkie that something was wrong in Lassie and Sandy's kennel--"Somebody come quick!"

Guy ran from wherever he was to Lassie's kennel, and when he got there, Lassie was in the middle of a seizure, which lasted about another 30 seconds and then she was okay.

Shannon, who has taken over Pat's duties of taking dogs to the vet clinic and keeping up with all the medical records and medicines and therapies, etc., immediately took Lassie to the vet along with Misty for her allergy shot and Big Old Jed to have his eyes looked at because lately his eyes have been secreting a lot of gooey liquid.

Dr. Morton took a blood sample from Lassie to see what might have caused the seizure, and we'll know the results tomorrow.

The doctor wants us to take Jed to the eye specialist in Arlington, which we'll do next Monday when we take Julie (the diabetic dog whose eyesight had been restored after a cataracts operation a year and a half ago) for her regular eye exam.
