FRIDAY JUNE 27 2003
Report from Shannon ...
A litter of desperate pups will be joining us
A
woman named Karen works for a man (she would like him to remain
nameless as she still has to work for him) who has a rat terrier
who recently had a litter of pups. (The man refuses to get his
dog spayed because it would cost money.) Because this was not
the first litter (and because the man claims to have killed
a couple of the puppies from the last litter AND to have
shot dogs trying to mate with his dog), Karen managed to hide
the puppies in the barn--until today. The man discovered the puppies,
who scattered at full speed in all directions, and he began hunting
them down. Karen said the man said he was shouting he was going
to "bash their little heads in."
What
is wrong with people?! ... Karen managed to smuggle the
puppies out of the barn, and she hid them in her apartment, which
does not allow dogs. (I hope they don't read the update.)
Karen had been on the phone for hours calling every no-kill shelter
she could find. None of them could help. (It's "puppy season,"
and everyone--including Straydog--is full.) Karen and her daughter
were both in tears because they knew what would happen if they
took the puppies to their local pound.
We told Karen FIRST to drive the
puppies from the Oklahoma border to Morton Small Animal Clinic
in Athens, Texas and then to "borrow" and spay the mother
so she doesn't have any more puppies for the monster to kill.
This is going to be expensive, everyone. But hopefully we'll be able to adopt these new pups out fairly quickly.
Bobby went to Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center early this morning
At the posting of this update Bobby has had his operation (a big expense) and is doing fine. Shannon will be picking him up tomorrow at 10:20 a.m. ... Complete story tomorrow.
