Shannon's Vet-Visit Report
Katie
Sassy Ol' Katie got her toenails
trimmed (with the help of a muzzle). Today she will get the summer
haircut she got last year, and tomorrow she will begin her life
as a daytime house dog. She likes her pool and kennel, so we will
take her back outside at night. During the day, it's just too
hot for a 15 or 16 year old dog! Shannon donated a giant crate
for Katie to spend her days in while inside. She's very good in
the house (as she was in the "hospital" once before
when we first got her) ,and she barks when she has to go potty,
but she will have to stay in a crate because of Blackie and the
many hospital dogs going in and out all day long now.
In Pat's last email to me [Shannon],
she said it was already getting too hot for Katie. She wished
poor old Katie would find a home to live out her last days.
Julie
Julie's glucose count was higher
today--just outside of the normal range. Dr. Morton thinks that
maybe sometimes her own enzymes work in addition to the enzyme
supplements we are giving her. We are going to test her blood
again tomorrow, and Julie's staying inside 24/7 so we can catch
her early if she has a seizure.
Sally & Alice
We think that Alice is chewing both
her own tail AND Sally's tail. We decided to board them so their
wounds will stay clean and they can be watched closely.
Jed
Jed had an elevated white blood
cell count (indicating infection). He has been on antibiotics
over the weekend, and Dr. Morton wanted to test the counts again.
We'll report as soon as we hear from Dr. Morton.
After a little over seven weeks Emily gets the green light to go back to her outdoor kennel she shares with Pokey
Although the air-conditioning must feel nice, Emily's been getting more and more bored and is becoming more and more rambunctious in her living room kennel, and today we checked with Dr. McDonald (the vet surgeon who repaired Emily's ACL tear in her right knee), and the doctor said that because Emily is such a small, light dog, her knee should be completely well by now.
Juana put the leash on Emily and walked her back to her buddy, Pokey, whom she's seen every day during walk times in the park. We kept them on leash till we were sure they'd be okay together (remember how Buddy wouldn't accept Betsy back until they had been walked around on leash for a while), and when we saw everything was all right, off came the leashes, and they went back to their normal routine, which consists mostly of lying in their favorite spots in the shade.

Email reports on one of the five pups adopted over the weekend:
"Sport" - the tan puppy
Pam Mitchell (dog rescuer and Straydog Adoption Day Volunteer) reports that Sport's new daddy's office is right next to Pam's, so she got a report first thing Monday morning: The new dad said that they couldn't ask for a better puppy. Little Sport goes to the door when he wants to potty (both #1 and #2). The pup does not whine at all and sleeps through the night.
When Pam did the home visit Saturday, even Puppy Sport's new grandfather was there, and he immediately told Sport that he was a very lucky dog.
Sport will be very loved and well taken care of.
