Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog Log

WEDNESDAY JULY 23 2003

Long-time contributor, Ofelia Gipson, volunteers her morning to help out with dog walks, which include each set's outing in the big play yard

Many thanks to Ofelia for coming out to Straydog and volunteering a half day to help us out. She really got to see what a big operation this is and how much work it is for our Kennel Team Members/Caregivers. Ofelia's suggestion to put name tags on each kennel is a good one and one we've thought of before, but we just have never gotten around to it since everyone here learns all the names fairly quickly, but we will try to get this done--especially if more people start volunteering, which we strongly encourage. Just give us a call if you've got some extra time and want to get all dirty working with the dogs. Our number again is 903-479-3497.

Puppy Tinkerbell gets some special attention from Ofelia.

We're trying to find Sandy a new kennel mate as he's starting to seem lonely after Little Lassie's death

We tried Puppy Tinkerbell with Sandy this morning, but he just growled at Tinks, and that was the end of that. He'll just have to stay alone in his big kennel for a while longer till the right dog comes along.

"I'm not interested in her," says Sandy. "Take me back to my kennel alone, please."

Rosie and her two growing sons, Benny and Rudy, once again dig from their kennel into the kennel of their neighbors, Mommy Dog and Briar

It's a good thing Bobby's in the kitchen kennel recuperating from his knee surgery, because I don't think Bobby would stand for this intrusion. There's really no interaction among the five dogs when they're together before we realize what's going on and separate them, but there could be. So Joel patched up the common fence line with more bricks, and hopefully it will hold this time.

Joel brings Rosie, Rudy and Benny out of Mommy Dog and Briar's kennel as Mommy and Briar watch.

Back into their kennel next door they go.

Joel starts to fix the hole beneath Rosie's kennel fence line.
