Report from Shannon at Straydog ...
Mandy asked to be featured in the update tonight
Mandy had a home for a few hours a couple of months ago, but she was brought back. (Click here to see the May 17th update.) She really seemed sad to have to come back that day. She especially doesn't like the heat (being a breed of the far north), and she is such an affectionate dog. Mandy really needs a home where she can be with people and out of the heat. Mandy is not scheduled for Adoption Day this Saturday at Petsmart, but if anyone would like to meet her (and we get enough volunteer dog sitters), just call, and we will be happy to bring her.

Jesse and his mother, Laura, are sporting new haircuts
We've gotten some emails asking about Jesse Bear and Laura. They seem to be loving their new haircuts. They were so matted they had to have long shaves (as opposed to close shaves). They are still pretty timid, but Erin has reported that Jesse Bear comes up to her to be petted and scratched, and Momma Laura lets Erin touch her now.

Randy, a second-shift caregiver, finds and gets rid of a Black Widow spider!
We love our kennel team! It's SO hot outside every day here in Texas, and we are short-handed, so all of our dedicated, hard-working employees are pitching in to make sure everything gets done.
Pat always made it a rule that all of our caregivers and kennel workers regularly crawl into all of the dogs' houses and shelters to check for ants, wasps, or anything out of the ordinary. Today, caregiver Randy found a huge black widow spider and her eggs in a corner of poor Toby's shaded area. We immediately put Toby inside the house so Randy could carefully remove the webs, eggs, and spiders. We're sure Toby appreciates Randy's thoroughness.
