Report from Erin ...
Results of Saturday Adoption Day: Archie adopted! Veronica may be adopted tomorrow (Sunday)! Mandy's adoption didn't work--incompatibility with the family dog
[Stories to come Sunday morning--see below.] [A note from Bill ... We're having Internet access problems again tonight. I got the above headlines by phone from Erin. Junior and I are in a motel just west of Little Rock. We'll make the final leg of our journey tomorrow (Sunday) morning after I get tonight's update finalized and posted, and I'll be back at Straydog sometime tomorrow afternoon. I guess it was good for me to go on this trip to my (and Pat's) Oberlin High School Reunion (Class of 1958), but I sure miss the shelter and all the dogs.]
SATURDAY EVENING UPDATE POSTED SUNDAY MORNING AT ~9:20
Archie has a new home!
Cameo, a three-year-old blonde Lab, needed a friend so she (with her guardian, Roma) came to Petsmart and met Archie. The two dogs sniffed each other and were playful together at the store, which looked very promising. Roma said she had a big fenced yard, and wanted Archie to come visit. I (Erin) took Archie to Roma's house, and the dogs were fine together on leash outside of Cameo's yard. We entered the large, grassy fenced yard, and the dogs started playing. We took off their leashes, and they were instantly the best of friends! Roma said that Cameo hasn't jumped and run like that since she was a puppy.
Archie was on his best behavior at his new buddy's house. We walked inside, and Archie took a great big drink out of Cameo's elevated water bowl and then went to check out the rest of the house. Archie now has a doggie door and a nice big crate for house training. We hope to hear from Roma on how their friendship progresses.

Veronica may be adopted Sunday
Meanwhile, back at Canine Commissary, Archie's sister, Veronica, stole the heart of a young lady who doesn't want to make a rash decision, but is very interested in being Veronica's new mom! The woman will come again to visit with Veronica Sunday at our second adoption day of the weekend in the parking lot of The Red Jacket (next to Canine Commissary on Lower Greenville), and if Veronica is not adopted, we now know she gets along perfectly with Puppy Pierce. Even though Veronica's brother, Archie, has a new home, Veronica will not be alone here.
Mandy's potential adoption doesn't work out
A very nice lady named Judy fell in love with Mandy. She visited with Mandy at our Adoption Day at PetsMart for an hour, walking and petting Mandy. When we got to Judy's house, though, Pippin, her territorial Blue Heeler mix, wouldn't stop barking and snarling at Mandy. Mandy slowly wagged her tail and wasn't interested In fighting, but Pippin didn't want friendship at this time. We didn't even try to introduce Mandy to Pluto, Judy's other dog. We feel very bad about this because Judy wanted so much for the adoption to work, but we've never seen two incompatible dogs become compatible. In all of our experience it has never worked.
ADDITIONAL ADOPTION DAY THIS WEEK!
We've been asked to bring two dogs to the parking lot of The Red Jacket tomorrow (next door to the Canine Commissary on Greenville in Dallas) for "Disco Doggy and Kitty Adoption." Long-time employee Tina and newcomer Tamara are going to take Veronica and Pierce in hopes of another adoption (or two) this week.
Our group will be there from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m., and we hope to see lots of potential adopters there!
