Today's "Sunday Adoption Day" at The Red Jacket went well but no adoptions

Note that today's Adoption Day at The Red Jacket next to Canine Commissary on Lower Greenville in Dallas was held inside as per the sign above.

Sweet Veronica and Caregiver Tina inside The Red Jacket nightclub on a Sunday afternoon.
(The woman who was interested in adopting Veronica yesterday didn't show up today.)

Veronica likes Caregiver Tamara scratching her neck.

Young woman brings her white dog and considers adopting Puppy Pierce.

Tinkerbell to be returned to our shelter

Tinkerbell has become aggressive with the older family dog. Tinkerbell is crated at night and given a bone, and when the other dog gets near the crate, Tinkerbell gets territorial, even through the crate. We're trying to figure out the kennel situation here in preparation for Tinkerbell's return. Since Archie was just adopted yesterday, maybe Tinks can be Veronica's friend, or if Veronica is adopted, Tinks can be back with Pierce and/or Willie, or she can be by herself.

Veronica and Pierce go to our first Sunday Adoption Day

Veronica and Pierce went to the Red Jacket, a nightclub next door to Canine Commissary on Lower Greenville, which hosts an adoption day for both dogs and cats every Sunday. Caregivers Tina and Tamara took the beautiful dogs to this new adoption place, where the above photos (taken inside) turned out dark because almost everything in the nightclub is black--the carpet, the walls, etc. Lots of people came by our Straydog area and were interested in the dogs, but there were no adoptions.

Fuzzy is being force-fed

Fuzzy is going in to the Veterinary Diagnostic Center in Dallas Monday morning for more extensive tests as we're having to force-feed her at the present time. She is such a sweet girl, and wags her tail at us all the time, even though she doesn't like being force-fed. She'll still drink water on her own. And two days ago she ate two bites of a hot dog and two bites of chicken on her own. Poor Fuzzy. She's curled up indoors on a bed right now. We're all hoping she'll be okay.

All of our caregivers and kennel workers are really working hard in the heat

Eighty dogs is way too many for the number of employees we have. Because of this overpopulation of our shelter, our kennel team members are often skipping their lunch breaks to finish their duties, and they are not taking their scheduled days off, working far too many days in a row without a break. Also they are working extremely hard in all this heat!

Caregivers and Kennel Team Members, I just want to thank you all. Without you this just wouldn't work. Thank you for taking care of Mom's dogs so very well! We are working hard on adoptions to get our shelter population back down to Mom and Dad's self-imposed limit of 65.

Sincerely,
Erin

A note from Bill ...

When Junior and I got back to Dallas yesterday afternoon, we stopped by the Red Jacket to see Tina and Tamara and the two dogs, and I took the above photos. When we got back to Straydog, Erin was working on the above update, but there was so much catching up to do that I didn't have time to get Erin's report on till Monday.
