Tinkerbell becomes Scottie's new kennel mate--for a while

Fuzzy and Scottie had been kennel mates for several years, and we were at first worried that it might be very difficult to find Scottie a new companion after the sad loss of Fuzzy yesterday. Scottie is very temperamental, and when we first found that he and Fuzzy were compatible, we were surprised and elated. We never thought, however, that we'd be so lucky as to find Scottie another best buddy, but so far Tinkerbell is working out great as Scottie's new kennel mate.

Scottie growled a little when we first introduced them in the park this morning, but he soon warmed up to her, and he willingly accepted Tinks into his kennel.

"This is my new kennel mate, Tinkerbell," says Scottie. "She likes to play more than Fuzzy did."

After a lot of romping around together, which we didn't get on camera, the two took a long nap.

FLASH! - Mid afternoon the sound of a dog fight erupts

Unfortunately what we thought was a compatible pairing between Tinks and Scottie turned violent, and we had to separate them. Luckily there were caregivers close to Scottie's kennel when the skirmish started, and they got the two dogs apart before little Tinkerbell could get hurt (Scottie's at least twice her size). As we've explained many, many times before, in our experience, once there's a fight, dogs never seem to forget it, and they must be separated.

Ofelia volunteers yet another Wednesday and puts up dog name tags on all the kennels

Ofelia Gipson (a long-time supporter and now a weekly volunteer) came out to spend another Wednesday with us, and she brought along dog name tags for each and every kennel.

Ofelia created a laminated name tag for every dog at our shelter, and she hung them up on the kennels today.

Ofelia also tags the many inside "hospital" kennels. That's Julie with her E-collar looking up at Ofelia.

Ofelia pays for all the dogs to be groomed!

Ofelia also wrote Straydog a check to cover all the dog grooming expenses we've incurred lately, getting mats out of many of the dogs' fur. She also wants us to get all the rest of the dogs (who need it) into a groomer as soon as possible, and she will cover the expenses for this grooming. We thank you very, very much, Ofelia.
