Straydog UPDATE posted FRIDAY 8/15/03 at ~7:00 p.m. CT

FRIDAY AUGUST 15 2003
Alice goes to the vet first thing this morning to check wound where scab came off
Dr. Morton said the stitches were ready to come out (which he took out), and he was a little concerned about the opening where the scab had come off last evening. He prescribed an antibiotic and bandaged up Alice's tail stub once again and said she must continue to wear the E-collar until her tail is completely healed. He also said to bring Sally in Monday to have her stitches removed.
A note from Bill ...
I came up to Dallas to visit my 94-year-old father this afternoon and will stay with Dad till tomorrow, so Shannon and Erin (who are managing Straydog in my absence) emailed me the following report:
Beautiful Susie comes home from the groomer
Thanks once again to Volunteer Ofelia for funding another trip to the doggie beauty salon. Today was Susie's turn, and she looks (and acts) like a new dog! Susie got home just in time for lunch, and she dug right into her food, which is unusual for her. She did stop eating long enough to pose for a picture and tear off her pretty bows.

Poor Anthony can only watch Susie from his hospital kennel window
Susie's kennel mate since puppyhood, Anthony, certainly noticed her makeover. His hospital kennel is positioned so he can see her from the window. He sure missed his friend today. Tomorrow we will take the two of them on an extra trip to the big play yard together.

Good Julie News: her blood sugar is normal
Julie, the diabetic dog, was in the normal range on her glucose blood test today. Erin recently changed Julie's diet to a natural meat and veggie diet with emphasis on insulin-mimicking vegetables. Good job Erin and Julie!
Andy is being returned after more than a year!
A year and four months after his adoption Andy (now named Jack) is coming back to Straydog. His mom is devastated, but I believe she's doing the best thing for Jack. The adjustment will be hard as Jack has been a pampered house dog for a long time, but we will give him plenty of extra attention. His mom wants to bring Jack to Straydog tomorrow to see where he will live. I've promised her that we will work through Jack's behavioral problems, give him plenty of time in the oversized play yard, and try to find a new home for him. Jack now weighs about 50 pounds (and is house trained!), and we are all anxious to see what he looks like as a grown up dog.

Saturday Adoption Day tomorrow!
Scheduled to go are Veronica, Mandy, Jed, Willie, Pierce, and Benny (we think). We are waiting on confirmation from a couple of volunteers, as we can only take as many dogs as we have doggie sitters for.
Jed's new dad will pick Jed up at Adoption Day
Jed 's new dad, Larry, is coming to Adoption Day to take Jed home! We will report on the adjustment period between Jed, Larry's two other dogs, two cats, and a hospital patient foster cat. We really hope this adoption works for Jed as he desperately needs a retirement home!
