An email to Erin from Willie's new mom

Erin,

Willie has already become a member of the family!! The first night there was a lot of sniffing and the girls seemed to be fine with our "new addition". Willie, of course, has been sleeping in the bed with Wade, Cocoa and me. Faith likes to spread out and we found out Willie does too-so she opted for sleeping upstairs with Brennain where there was a lot more room. He has only one "accident" (#2), and I think it's because Wade took too long in the morning getting ready! He already has a number of toys--since he was showing interest in the rugs! He tried to eat the sports page on Sunday while Wade was reading it. I think it was because Willie wanted Wade's attention.

It is amazing what a gift Willie has turned out to be for Wade! He dotes on Willie and laughs at everything he does. While Wade still gets teary eyed over Nordy, Willie has given him something to live for and soooo much joy. I can never thank you enough! We have already taken pictures and will forward them as soon as they are developed.

Love,

Cindy, Wade and Willie

Four dogs accompany Juana to the vet clinic this morning

   Julie

Julie's blood sugar test results were in the normal range once again. Erin's spending a lot of time cooking specially prescribed foods for Julie, and so far it looks like her new diet is working.

   Foxy Yatzee

This is the beautiful dog Erin found on the highway a few days ago. Her recent arrival checkup was good. The heartworm results won't be back till tomorrow. The doctor couldn't tell if she'd been spayed, but he thinks she has been. The only way to find out for sure (short of exploratory surgery) is to wait to see if she goes into estrus.

   Angel

Angel is having a recurring problem with her left eye secreting a thick white liquid. The doctor prescribed some eye medicine. He also found a hard lump on her chest that he wants to remove and send off for a biopsy this Thursday morning at 9:00.

   Purdis

This is a new fella who come to us this morning via a park ranger whom we're acquainted with. The ranger drove up and came in, and I first told him we were full up, which we are, but when I walked the ranger back to his truck, I saw the little dog in a cage in the back. The dog is at least a year old and weighs only about 10 pounds. He's probably part Chihuahua. Since he's so small, I figured he would be easily adopted out, so I said we'd squeeze him into the spot recently vacated by Willie.

Purdis runs to the camera in a blur.

Juana is taking Purdis (left) and Foxy to the vet along with Sally and Julie.

The park ranger also told me an interesting story about how his first duty every morning at the park is to free all the baby raccoons from the dumpsters before the trash truck comes by to pick up the garbage. Somehow the babies can follow their mothers into the dumpsters but can't get back out. The ranger sticks a broom stick into the dumpster, and the little babies cling to it while he lifts them out.
