SUNDAY AUGUST 31 2003
A rainy, gray day, making temperatures much cooler--77 degrees at six p.m.
The dogs love it! The rain has been heavy at time, but there is very little breeze, so the rain's been falling straight down. And with no lightning and thunder the dogs (especially those who are very afraid of thunder) didn't mind walking around their kennels with the cooling water falling on their backs.

Before the rain started, Angel let us know she would prefer her outside kennel
Angel's been staying in one of the living room kennels since she came home Friday after her surgery Thursday, but after I took her for an outing in the park this morning, she stood firmly by the main gate expecting to be taken back to her and Old Pup's kennel. She hasn't been bothering her stitches, so I deferred to her wishes.

Max, who just got shaved, received a nice email from his old buddy, Tommy Tootles
Hey, Max, this is your old friend and buddy, Tommy Tootles. I really know just how you feel about this grooming business. My mom and dad let my coat get a bit too long in the winter, and they do their best to keep me "groomed" (that means get some of the mats out), and I do appreciate that. Spring is another matter. Off to our groomer they take me, and I come home looking just like you do in your latest picture.

And, my guardians say the same thing about me: "Wow, he isn't fat after all!" Don't worry, it will grow out, and I think it is really comfortable to have less hair in the summer.
The only bad thing that ever happened was when a new groomer shaved me down to the skin and left a big lion's mane around my neck, and, as you know, I have only a stub for a tail, and they cut it into a great big round puff ball, just like poodles wear. I wanted to hide under the bed and never come out. My guardian mom took pity on me and did some trimming so my tail and neck didn't look so silly.
Max, please say "Woof!" to all my friends at Straydog, and tell them I hope they find as happy a forever home as I have.
Oh, did they tell you that we adopted Candy in February of this year? (She was the real shy, scared little girl.) Well, if you could see her now, you would be so surprised. She is so loving, happy and playful, and she greets folks at the door and just loves our big back yard to run circles in and she thinks squirrels were made just for her enjoyment to chase them up the tree. We share our toys and just get along great.
To all the caregivers and Bill and all of his family, Candy and I and our mom and dad say you are the GREATEST, and we salute you for your wonderful work.
