TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 2 2003

I caught Rudy trying to dig out again this morning a little after seven o'clock

You have to check these diggers all the time, no matter how secure their kennel seems to be, and Rosie and Rudy's kennel was really only half secure until after this morning's attempted escape. (Now it's still only three-quarters secure since we were short-handed today.) Luckily I was doing a quick kennel check at seven this morning when I caught him on film:

"Rudy!" I yelled, and he jumped back out of the hole with a sheepish grin on his face.

While I kept Rudy away from the hole, Michael went for a shovel and another block.

Michael fills in the hole.

Rudy says he's sorry.

As soon as we get time, we'll line the entire kennel with these big $4 blocks. Luckily whenever there is an escape, we still have the big wood fence surrounding the entire Straydog facility.

Julie's blood sugar level too low

Juana took Julie to the vet this morning for her glucose test, and it was below the normal range for the second time in a week, so Dr. Morton reduced her insulin from 23 units to 20 units, still three times per day. Perhaps the new diet Erin has Julie on is working.

Julie (the hospital dog with diabetes) goes to the park with Toby and Blackie, Pat's long-time house dogs

Whenever Julie is taken from her living room kennel out to the park, she has to pass by Toby and Blackie, who are loose in the house, and there's never been a problem. They've always been very friendly toward each other, so Tina tried the three together in the park yesterday, and today we took some photos. No problems whatsoever. We'll keep trying this and if they continue to seem compatible, Julie will become a house dog for the rest of her life right here at Straydog--unless she's adopted, of course. Then she'll become a house dog in someone else's home.

Julie playfully follows Toby.

No problems between Blackie and Julie, but we're watching them closely as Julie is so much bigger.

Purdis goes to the vet clinic with Julie, and he's hookworm-free and out of quarantine

Out of quarantine around here means you get to go to the park when it's your turn just like all the other dogs. Purdis had a great first outing.
