New puppy dogs Spike and Bella come home from the clinic

Both of these big pups will go fast at Adoption Day when they get the okay to attend. We say this, of course, about all new dogs, but some just don't get adopted quickly, and some just don't get adopted ever. And we all know why. There are simply too many of these precious surplus babies. Our society (in the U.S. alone) euthanizes 15,000 homeless dogs and cats every day.

We had to do some "mixing and matching," as Pat used to call it, to make room for the new arrivals because we have zero empty kennels.

First we freed up Purdis's kennel by moving him in with Foxy Yatzee after moving Benny back in with his mother and brother, Rosie and Rudy.

Tho Foxy Yatzee showed little interest in Purdis, they are at least compatible and will
kennel together till Purdis goes to his new home with Juana, who's holding Foxy in the photo.

Next since both Sandy and Scotty are alone in their kennels now (after the recent deaths of their long-time kennel mates, Lassie and Fuzzy), the plan was to try Bella with each of those two single guys first to see if she could move in with them.

Scotty was trying to be a gentleman, but we could tell by his growls that this wasn't going to work.

Sandy says, "No dice."

Last option: Bella and Spike must be compatible and reside in Purdis's kennel

Thank God this worked. Now we can all go to bed and get ready for Adoption Day.

We never take the leashes off till we're sure they'll be all right together. And they were.
