Bill Arnold continues
to work (without pay) every day for Straydog Inc. Pat and Bill's
four
children (all in their 30s and 40s with full-time jobs) are also
volunteering (and two working
part time) helping Straydog continue to operate exactly as Pat
would have wanted.
(As always complete
financial records are available on request.)
Straydog,
our Happy Home for Strays
(The
hexagon is "The Big Play Yard," which we usually refer
to as "the park")
(Photo taken May 2002)
Straydog
is a "lifeboat" (and sanctuary) for rescued dogs. A
vacant spot in a kennel is an empty seat in our "lifeboat,"
so please, if you're interested in adopting a dog, see our "Dogs
for Adoption" links below, or call to inquire about dogs
you may have seen recent photos of but who may not yet be included
in our "Dogs for Adoption" links.
And
please
continue to support us. We will continue to row this "lifeboat"
to shore, dropping off rescued dogs into the arms of
good adopters, and we will continue to fill the space left vacant
by each adopted dog with another desperate
homeless dog for as long as we can hold on (financially). We believe
that the example of our sacrifice (and the
example of the sacrifices made by the people running all other
no-kill shelters) must be publicized to wake people up
and make them aware of the necessity to SPAY and NEUTER their pets so that homeless dog-rescue
"lifeboats" will
no longer be necessary. (Ditto for cats!)

may sound elaborate, but
my and Pat's son, Joe (who's a computer technician at SMU), knows
how to hook up stuff
like this at very little expense.)

Lots more mixing and matching
of kennel mates after yesterday's two (new) adoptions
With
Puppy Pierce gone Veronica was alone in a kennel. With Big Puppy
Dog Pepsi gone his mother, Crissy, was alone in a kennel. Boomer,
who has very bad hips, is constantly playing too rough with his
kennel mate, Heather, so we wanted to change her out for a smaller,
gentler dog to live with Boomer. And last evening Foxy Yatzee
attacked sweet little Purdis for no reason at all, so Purdis (who
luckily wasn't hurt) spent the night inside the "hospital
trailer" in Bobby's kitchen kennel. Purdis now needed an
outside kennel spot. (Bobby's been spending most of his days and
nights in the little puppy kennel next to the park. He prefers
the outside accommodations. He's an "outpatient," whose
leg is still not healed enough to put much weight on it, so we're
taking him back to Dallas Tuesday to see Dr. McDonald again.)
When
we started the mixing and matching early this morning, we had
no idea how it would all work out, but somehow it did.
First
we tried Boomer with Rosie, the mother of Rudy and Benny. The
family of three have been living together in Rosie's kennel since
Rosie's other puppies were adopted out. After a few unsure moments,
Rosie and Boomer started to get along, so we put Boomer back in
his kennel again with Heather (temporarily), and we put Rosie
(temporarily) back in her own kennel with her two sons.
Rosie meets Boomer.
After the leashes
came off, they began to play.
"Rosie's
as much fun as Heather but not so rough," says Boomer.
Next
we introduced Purdis to Crissy, Pepsi's mom, but for some reason
Crissy didn't like the little fella.
We weren't sure
yet, so we took Purdis inside Crissy's kennel.
Crissy just wouldn't
accept Little Purdis, or maybe it was he who was rejecting Crissy.

A
Note from Pat from about a year ago ... A long-time friend and supporter of
our Happy Home for Strays called recently and suggested that we
always print the following words on our webpage and in our newsletters: "Please keep us in your prayers and remember
us in your will."
Our friend
(and supporter) pointed out that many retired contributors are
living on the limited earnings from their investments (as is he),
and they cannot afford to send very large donations but would
be able to help us by remembering Straydog Inc. in their wills,
as this friend and supporter has done.
