Erin's Adoption Day Report ...

Veronica was adopted today!

Volunteer Claire was standing outside Petsmart with Veronica when Andy walked out of the store. He fell in love at first sight with Veronica, and when Claire said, "This girl is up for adoption," Andy didn't waste any time. He came back inside and was ready for a home visit right away, being sure his wife would also deeply fall for this lovely and sweet Shepherd mix. Their dog Scout was also a rescue two years ago, and he was friendly around Veronica in the store.

Claire and I made the home visit and are extremely happy that Veronica will be such a pampered house companion now for this couple. Veronica seemed happy inside and outside at her new family's home. She checked out the dog house doggie door, playfully ran around with Scout, and also sat for a moment in Andy's wife's beautiful garden next to a trickling fountain. Then Veronica bounded out to us from the garden ready for more pets and hugs!

Andy didn't know about the differences in quality of the various dog foods, but he took our advice on getting the more premium foods without by-products or chemicals. He bought lots of food for both Scout and Veronica, and I handed him the heartworm preventative that Veronica is due to take now.

While Andy's wife was signing the paperwork, we all caught a glimpse of Andy through the window, smiling very heartily towards his new girl Veronica (who's name may be changed)!

Congratulations to Veronica and her new family! (Thank you Shannon for 'being there', for Archie and Veronica at the vet's a few months ago, when that monster was trying to buy a tranquilizer so he could more easily shoot the dogs because they had fleas!) Now, both Archie and Veronica are at wonderful homes. They've gone from stray dogs in grave danger, to VERY lucky dogs with inside homes!

Pepsi, who was adopted last week, was renamed Ramsey

We saw Annah at Petsmart today, with the two Airedales she had skipped the grooming appointments for last week so she could finalize the adoption with Pepsi. As her Airedales were being groomed today, Annah told us about Ramsey: "First of all," she said, "every time I asked my husband if he wanted a Pepsi, Pepsi, our new dog, would answer, so we tried to think of a name that was similar. Pepsi answered to the name of Ramsey, and we liked that name too, so now his name is Ramsey."

Annah went on to say that Ramsey does some very cute things: He will take every throw rug in the house and also will take the blankets out of their nighttime kennels and bring them all out in front of the TV and make a bed to lie down on! He also jumps right up on their bed taking Oscar's spot, or he makes a nice place for himself on the couch! He eats his biscuits so slowly and gently that it really teases Oscar, but there haven't been any problems with the dogs eating together.

"One very funny thing that Ramsey does is pick up shoes or clothes, usually the last thing I've touched," Annah said, "and he'll take it away, not to chew, but to try to get me to follow him and retrieve the item and then play with him. He sometimes does this when I am in the bathtub!"

A good Adoption Day

We had another successful adoption day and good stories from previous adopters! Thanks to all our wonderful volunteers who make this possible for our doggies!

Volunteer Maryanne holds Rudy on her lap while Brother Benny sleeps with his head on Volunteer Marci's leg.

And please remember, we'll be at PetsMart on Central (75) at Parker Road tomorrow (Sunday) from noon till four for the second half of PetsMart's Big Yearly Weekend Adoption Event.
