WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 24 2003

Ofelia Gipson came to volunteer again today

Every Wednesday Ofelia comes and helps out with dog walks (among other things), and this added caregiver gives the dogs much more attention than they normally get with just one caregiver with each set in the park. The dogs all love Ofelia, and we really appreciate her coming out to help us. (And again we thank Ofelia for donating so much to have all the dogs groomed this summer. We and the dogs all appreciate Ofelia's help very much.)

I got a few more photos of Teddy and Sunny today in the big play yard before I had to leave for a dental appointment in Dallas, after which I stopped at Whole Foods Market for a 25-pound bag of millet and 15 pounds of brown rice and a lot of vegetables, for our overnight man, Randy Hopkins, to cook up tonight to add to tomorrow's dog meals, especially for the dogs with bone and joint problems.

Sunny, Teddy's kennel mate.

Sunny gets special attention from Juany.

Sunny gets out of the park pool, her lower half dripping wet.

Ofelia pets Teddy while Mandy checks a tiny bump on his head.

Sunny runs with a toy in her mouth.

Late Breaking Story ...

Just as he was going on a short break after dark, Michael caught Rudy escaping from "The Julie Kennel" (which is picture #4 on the live video stills link above)

I thought it was going to be a pretty routine day, other than the Ofelia visit mentioned above, when all of a sudden tonight I'm looking at the #4 Camera, "The Julie Kennel" camera, and I see Michael filling in a hole by the fence.

Daytime view from Camera #4 of the original "Julie Kennel," which Julie gave up when she moved inside the house.

A moment later Michael was on the radio calling me to report on what had happened: Rudy had found a soft spot in one of Pat's original kennels, which had a one-foot concrete footer under the permanent chain link fencing. Somehow Rudy found a narrow area we somehow had forgotten to secure, and he dug out. Luckily Michael was just passing by to go on his break, and he caught Rudy and patched the hole securely with cement blocks. Before we had a person on duty to cover, Pat would have gotten up, after Rudy had "terrorized" the entire shelter causing ALL the dogs to start to bark, which would have woken Pat up, and Pat would have patched the hole and then gone back to bed to possibly be awakened again later.
