Since Pat's
death Bill Arnold continues to work (without pay) every day for
Straydog Inc. Pat and Bill's four
children (all in their 30s and 40s with full-time jobs) are also
volunteering (and two working
part time) helping Straydog continue to operate exactly as Pat
would have wanted.
(As always complete
financial records are available on request.)
Straydog,
our Happy Home for Strays
(The
hexagon is "The Big Play Yard," which we usually refer
to as "the park")
(Photo taken May 2002)
Straydog
is a "lifeboat" (and sanctuary) for rescued dogs. A
vacant spot in a kennel is an empty seat in our "lifeboat,"
so please, if you're interested in adopting a dog, see our "Dogs
for Adoption" links below, or call to inquire about dogs
you may have seen recent photos of but who may not yet be included
in our "Dogs for Adoption" links.
And
please
continue to support us. We will continue to row this "lifeboat"
to shore, dropping off rescued dogs into the arms of
good adopters, and we will continue to fill the space left vacant
by each adopted dog with another desperate
homeless dog for as long as we can hold on (financially). We believe
that the example of our sacrifice (and the
example of the sacrifices made by the people running all other
no-kill shelters) must be publicized to wake people up
and make them aware of the necessity to SPAY and NEUTER their pets so that homeless dog-rescue
"lifeboats" will
no longer be necessary. (Ditto for cats!)

may sound elaborate, but
Pat's and my son, Joe (who's a computer technician at SMU), knows
how to hook up stuff
like this at very little expense.)
Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog
Log
SUNDAY OCTOBER
5 2003
It's been raining all day
with temperatures in the lower 70s
As
always our daily routine was followed. (We only halt operations,
as I've said before, when there's lightning, and there was none
today.) One new employee quit at her lunch break, saying it was
just too cold and wet for her. I told her if she couldn't hack
this weather, she certainly wouldn't like it when it's 35 degrees
with ice cold rain and sleet falling. She agreed and left. This
just wasn't her "cup of tea," we both agreed. The rest
of the crew filled in for the exiting caregiver.
Mandi's in Jack
and Jill's kennel with her poop bucket and a shovel.
A caregiver/walker
takes Muff, Buff and Fluff back to their kennel after their
turn in the park in the pouring rain, temperature about 70 degrees.
The caregiver/walker
gives the threesome a treat before she leaves them to go on to
the next set of dogs.
As the rain pours
down, the caregiver/walker closes the gate saying goodbye to Buffy.
That's Muffy
on her way to her shelter. Fluffy's no doubt already in her dog
house hoping she'll dry off as soon as possible.
Newsletter is almost
ready to stuff into envelopes
The
crew got done with all the outside work about a quarter to five
this evening, so I had them spend their last 15 minutes folding
Erin's two-page letter to her mom (Pat Arnold), which Erin wants
to include with my four-page abbreviated newsletter. Erin's also
working on four additional pages of photos of Pat and the dogs,
which Erin assures me will be finished, printed and brought to
Straydog (by Erin herself) when she comes to help out with the
mailing tomorrow. We will then commence stuffing the three separate
pieces into the already labeled and stamped envelopes, and hopefully
we'll get a large batch to the post office by tomorrow night.

in the pouring rain from the open sliding glass door. The orange
thing is a rain coat.

A
Note from Pat from about a year ago ... A long-time friend and supporter of
our Happy Home for Strays called recently and suggested that we
always print the following words on our webpage and in our newsletters: "Please keep us in your prayers and remember
us in your will."
Our friend
(and supporter) pointed out that many retired contributors are
living on the limited earnings from their investments (as is he),
and they cannot afford to send very large donations but would
be able to help us by remembering Straydog Inc. in their wills,
as this friend and supporter has done.
