Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog Log

FRIDAY OCTOBER 10 2003

The balance of the newsletters are in the mail [and we'll upload the PDFs as soon as you've received your black and white version]!

We've already begun receiving mail with contributions from the early batch that was mailed Monday. We got about 10 letters today, and those who wrote notes said they liked the newsletter. We thank them for their early response. Our vet was getting nervous as the vet bill now stands at over $3,700, but we told him we'd be able to pay him soon since the newsletters were finally going out in the mail, and we can count on our faithful contributors. He'll be happy now (soon), and everything will continue to run smoothly with the medical care and food and all the other needs of the dogs. [Erin edited the preceding paragraph.]

Late yesterday evening we decided to bring Alice in for the night

Although there was no thunder yesterday, the intermittent rain caused Alice to continue to try to get through her gate, pulling some of the chain link fencing loose and cutting Alice's nose in a few places, and she'd begun to chew on one of her paws.

Alice loves to spend as much time as possible in the house, and once she's in her living room kennel she goes right to sleep. Randy said this morning that Alice slept the whole night through and didn't bother her sore paw at all.

In the morning rather than take Alice back to her kennel, we put her in Chubs and Cassie's old kennel right outside the sliding glass kitchen door so we could keep an eye on her to be sure she didn't start chewing her paw. (Remember that Alice and Sally both were tail chewers.)

Alice's kennel mate Sally seemed to do okay by herself all night, but this morning when she saw her best buddy Alice across the park in Chubs and Cassie's kennel, she started crying and putting up a big fuss, so Juana brought Sally over to be with Alice. We're hoping these two can stop causing a ruckus whenever they notice their neighbors and there are passers-by, and there's a lot movement of dogs and people in and out of the main trailer (or hospital trailer as we now call it).

Alice waits by the gate for her old friend, Sally.

Juana brings Sally into the first part of the double gate.

Sally dances for joy as Alice says thanks to Juana for bringing her best buddy to her.

Sally (with the help of Alice) checks out the new kennel. That's Laura and Jesse, who changed kennels with
Amigo today because Laura was also trying to get out of their kennel down at the west end of the park.

Jack and Jill wonder who these two rowdies are.

Both Sally and Alice barked a lot at Jack and Jill, but the two deaf dogs were not intimidated
probably because they heard nothing and saw very little of Sally and Alice's threats.
