Katie has a good day, prancing around the park like a young puppy dog

Old Sassy Katie loves the cooler weather and shows her happiness by the way she runs around in the park. And this year when it gets too cold out, she'll be spending most of her time inside in one of the hospital kennels.

A very happy (at least) 14-year-old Katie

The kennel crew begins to put the shelter fronts on in preparation for winter

Russell, the new dog who's at the clinic because of the infection he got after having been neutered, is not getting in Michael and Joe-Joe's way as they put the front board on Russell's wooden shelter. It takes several days to get all the fronts on all the 30+ shelters.

Michael and Joe-Joe carry the shelter front board from the barn to Russell's kennel.

The front board sticks up too high due to the sand beneath it.

Michael tells Joe-Joe to go get a shovel or a hoe to get the sand build-up out of where the front goes.

Michael holds the board and waits for Joe-Joe.

Joe-Joe hoes away enough sand for the board to fit properly.

When they get the board in place, they fasten it tightly with screws.

Also in preparation for the coming winter we ordered 10 more bales of hay

The hay truck came mid afternoon, and the driver tossed the bales over a fence so our crew could easily move them into the barn (which they did later).

The hay truck is in position to unload the bales of hay into the fenced area enclosing the front of the barn.

The driver tosses (and kicks) another bale over the fence.

And many thanks to Ofelia for coming out and donating more than a half a day helping with dog walks/caregiving and some office work!
