Emily's leg seems somewhat better today
Emily still favored her left hind leg today, but she often put weight on it and only held it up occasionally, so we're all hoping it's just be a bruise.

Jacquielynn Floyd visited us today gathering information for a story to be published this Saturday in The Dallas Morning News
Jacquielynn Floyd is the Metropolitan Section columnist who wrote the wonderful piece on Pat in the June 3, 2003 edition of The Dallas Morning News, just two days after Pat's death. Jacquielynn wanted to visit to see how things were going five months later.

Email from Amigo's new mom, Claire
Hi everyone, just wanted
to give you an update on Amigo. He is doing quite well, has slept
on the bed with Al and me the past two nights. I think he is getting
used to it, but around this house we have to take turns! Amigo
and Barney are getting along okay. We took them for a walk together
and that went fine. They still need to get used to each other
in the house, and we let them spend time together (Barney has
his leash on) each day and I am sure they will be fine. Our other
dog Apache is kept totally away from Amigo. Apache is just too
old and set in his ways, and he's jealous of his mommy welcoming
Amigo. But luckily we have plenty of room to keep them separated.
Amigo is eating like a little piggy and is just as happy as he
can be. I fell in love with him from day one, and can't tell you
how happy I am to have him. Even if it is a little extra work
to make sure everyone "stays" happy, it is well worth
it!
Hopefully I will see you Saturday, but it depends on how my "boys"
are doing :)
Take care and God Bless,
Claire
No Adoption Day this Saturday
Juana, our General Supervisor, has to go to Mexico this weekend (she's leaving Wednesday night) to drive her ailing grandmother (whom Juana calls her mother) from Acunya, Mexico to Monterrey (a seven-hour trip after a seven-hour trip from Gun Barrel City, Texas to Acunya). Juana's grandmother has an appointment at a state-run hospital to have them check and if necessary put new batteries in her pace-maker. So we must all stay here at Straydog to cover for Juana. Pat said to me many times that Juana (aka Juany) was the employee who would most likely make the same decisions Pat would make, and for the past couple of months this has proven to be true, so it's going to be very difficult for us with Juana being away for five days.
