Erin fills in for her sick dad at least one last time ...
More shelter work, getting ready for winter
Tina and Michael have been getting the 'fronts' (the front panal boards with doggy doors) on the shelters. Today Tina screwed on the fronts for Alice and Sally's shelter and Jack and Jill's. (We're hoping that almost-blind and deaf Jack and Jill won't have trouble finding or getting through the flap doggie doors their first winter.) Many of the fronts are put on now, but there are many more to go! On days when we have more employees here, more work can be done winterizing the shelters.
Excerpts from an October 27th email from Blind Chubs and Sister Cassie's new mom, Jana
... We have reached a milestone. One of Charlie's workshop machines is really loud and Chubs and Cassie have been afraid of it so before Charlie turns it on, he has taken C&C from the shop and put them in the house. Well, today he took them to the house but left the door open and C&C came back in while the loud machine was going and weren't scared!
Saturday night Chubs went out the pet door in the middle of the night and brought in a rock. I kept hearing him chew on something, and I took it away from him. Charlie woke up the next morning and said, "I wonder how this rock got in the bed." We had a good laugh.
Chubs is very attached to Charlie and looks for him always. Chubs looks by stopping in his tracks, poking his head up (like a turtle does), cocking his head and flaring his nostrils. Chubs is working on being gentle with very little humans. Cassie did real well with my granddaughter and was very gentle, but Chubs didn't understand that he was too big to walk up to little Erin and not knock her down. He will learn, and she will grow.
Thank you very much Jana and Charlie for your updates on Chubs and Cassie. We are so happy that everything is working out so wonderfully for everyone at your home! Keep us posted!
Thank you for your well-wishes for Bill
Dad still isn't feeling well, but is eating a small amount and improving a little bit. He still has a fever though. Get better soon, Pop!
