Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog Log

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 13 2003

Today I've been feeling better but still not near 100%

My fever's been almost normal all day, and I slept pretty well (in bed!) last night without the feverish dreams of the previous nights causing me so much unpleasantness. I got quite a bit of Straydog work done today in between frequent rest periods to recharge myself. I think I'm going to make it.

Tonight temperatures are supposed to dip into the 30s, so the crew hurried to attach the balance of the shelter front panels, and we had 15 more bales of hay delivered (at $5 per bale) and stuffed all the dog houses with hay, fluffing up nature's simplest heater so the dogs could burrow in to form their beds

As the weather cools in the fall, the dogs simply love it when we hay their dog houses. They sit with great eagerness at their kennel fences as they watch the caregivers carrying great globs of the stuff around to each kennel.

Right after the fresh hay was delivered, Michael starts carrying it to the barn nearby.

We store the hay in the barn so it won't get wet, of course, and from there caregivers get what they need.

Caregiver Susan has just pushed a large amount of hay into Max's shelter and will next crawl in to hay the dog houses.

Caregiver Susan crawls out of Max and Molly's shelter after haying their dog houses.

Michael puts a front panel in place on the front of a shelter.

Michael attaches the front panel firmly with screws.
