SUNDAY NOVEMBER 23 2003

Weather is the story of the day

When I took over attending to the hospital dogs at six a.m., the temperature outside was a balmy 72 degrees. But by nine o'clock the wind had changed from the south to the north, and the temperature had dropped about 30 degrees. Along with the cold front came about two hours of cold, hard rain, during which dog walks and park play time continued along with kennel cleaning and everything else in our daily routine.

Tina walks Sasha to the park for her mid-morning outing.

Tina holds open the park gate as Michael comes to take over for Tina's break.

Back inside her bedroom kennel Sasha gets dried off by Michael, who himself is soaking wet.

We're making sure all dog houses are filled with fresh hay in anticipation of the drop in temperatures into the 20s tonight. We'll also bring Old Sassy Katie in to spend the night in one of the hospital kennels, and Puppies Madison and Robbie will also be coming in.

Later in the day the sun came out and the temperature got back up to 47 degrees, but we still had a strong, cold wind coming out of the north, which we all know is going to put the big freeze on us tonight.
