A couple offers to pay for Ojay's ear operation(s)!
A woman named Gayle called us about two o'clock this afternoon and said that she and her husband wanted to cover the expenses for Ojay's operation(s). She also said that if Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center would prefer to do each ear separately, as Dr. Wilkens had originally proposed, she and her husband would pay the additional cost of the two separate operations. I thanked Gayle very much for this very generous contribution to Straydog.
About an hour later I called Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center to let them know that we would opt for doing the surgery on each ear at different times if they felt it would be better for Ojay. I was put on hold for a while, and when the receptionist came back, she said that Dr. Wilkens had said he would much prefer doing two separate operations, that it would be much safer and better for Ojay, so that's what we'll do.
The receptionist also told me that Gayle had already come by and had given them her credit card numbers to pay for the surgeries.
AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH, GAYLE!
Ojay's visit to the eye specialist brings good news
Ojay and I left for the Animal Eye Clinic in Arlington (Texas) this morning a little after nine o'clock, and we arrived a little before eleven, completing the 90-mile trip in a little over 90 minutes. Ojay was a good boy in the back of my station wagon during the whole trip, and he behaved very well for the doctor and his assistants.

Dr. Paulsen said there was nothing serious wrong with Ojay's eyes. He said Ojay suffers from "dry eye," and prescribed some medication to correct the problem.
Old Pup's bowel problems are much better, but the extensive blood tests show a possibly serious problem with his adrenal and/or pituitary glands, possibly caused by a tumor
Just when we thought Old Pup was out of the woods, the results came back from the lab on the extensive blood samplings Dr. Morton took over the whole day last Friday, and right now it doesn't look good for Old Pup. But Dr. Morton wants us to bring Old Pup to his clinic for another day of blood tests after which we should know more.
This evening just after sundown Old Pups was running around playing in the park, so he still looks like he's getting better, at least from the bowel problems he's had over the past several days.
Ofelia volunteered the whole day again, and we got all the newsletters in the mail
Thanks again, Ofelia! Without your help today we probably would have been mailing them out piece-meal over the next couple of days.
Tomorrow I plan to work on photos
I even took more pictures today. I've got to get caught up, and I will.
