Beautiful weather again today, maybe a little too warm for the dogs
I'm so busy, I can't get to all the great photos we've taken. I start working at Straydog as the hospital attendant at six a.m., and tonight it was after six p.m. before I could start working on our website and today's update. Erin's going to write something tonight.
Erin Reports ...
Tomorrow's vet visits, Star Kitty, and thanks to our wonderful contributors!
Tomorrow we should hopefully hear back about more of Puppy's blood work. I'll stop by Dr. Morton's in the morning and see what the test says and what Dr. M. says about Pup's possible underlying pituitary or adrenal gland tumor. At least Pup's back to running around outside and playing with his toys in his kennel with his kennel mate Angel. Old Pup looks like he feels great. But we need to find out more as quickly as we can about his problems.
Fritz's breathing problem isn't any better after a week of steroids and antibiotics. Dr. M. said he'd like to take more x-rays and that he'd refer both these fellows to the diagnostic center for us if we'd like.
We've met a vet in a nearby city who, besides having all the credentials of a conventional vet, has also had training in acupuncture and other alternative treatments. He's very sympathetic to our rescue work too. We've run through all the tests that Dr. Morton could possibly do for Champ's kidney problems, and so we thought we'd ask an alternative point of view. Dr. Reeves said that he could strengthen the weaknesses with acupuncture, so we will take Champ to see Dr. Reeves tomorrow.
Star Kitty, mom's one kitty who's been here living near Sandy's kennel for many years had a wound on his neck today. I showed Tina how we can grab the scruff of his neck, just like mother cats do, and he will be calm enough for us to apply an ointment for wounds. Star Kitty wasn't too happy about this though, and he may not let us get too close to him tomorrow. I was wishing that we had some catnip to give him afterwards.
Just so happened that after Dad came home tonight from his errands, he had a few boxes from donators, and the Dippel family sent tennis balls and catnip! We'll sure use the catnip this week! I got sad seeing the tennis balls, as this was Buffy's favorite toy. "Think of Penny," Tina said, and all the other dogs who love to play ball!
Thank you everybody for all these early donations of money and dog supplies to help us so very much! We feel very loved!!
Kelsey's new dad, Jeff, emails us today:
Dear Straydog,
I thought I would give you an update on Kelsey. She and Stoney
have played and played hard ever since she arrived yesterday.
They pretty much play, sleep and then play some more. She is exactly
what we were looking for. She is quiet, smart and playful. We
put a big blanket on our bed last night to see how she would react
to being on the bed. Well, that ended up being were she stayed
the whole night. She never moved and she kept my feet warm. Thanks
for the great pet.
Jeff
P.S. We took some pictures of the dogs playing together. If I
can get my wife to show me how to email them to you, I will.
