FRIDAY JANUARY 30 2004

Rudy continues to lose weight, and no one knows for sure what's wrong with him

We reported just this week that Dr. Reeves had found hookworms in Rudy's stool during our visit there Tuesday, and we were hoping that that was Rudy's problem, but then we got to thinking that if Rudy's got hookworms, his brother, Benny, and his mother, Rosie, probably have them too since they kennel together, but neither of those two is losing weight. So now we're thinking we'd better hurry up and take Rudy to the Dallas Veterinary Diagnostic Center to try to get to the bottom of the skinny dog's problem before it's too late. Juana's on her way to Dr. Morton's clinic right now to have Ojay's stitches removed and to have Macy dipped a second time for her demodectic mange, and while at the clinic Juana will ask Dr. Morton to refer us to the DVDC, and we'll make an appointment for ASAP.

Two months ago Rudy (on the right) was bigger than his brother, Benny (on the left).

Except for Rudy's weight loss (for which we are giving him a third big meal every day)
the playful dog seems fine. In the above photo Rudy is getting ready for Super Bowl Sunday.

Rudy loves football!

Skinny Rudy continues to play with the football while his brother and mother tussle.

Ojay's at our local vet clinic having his stitches removed; Macy's there to be dipped for mange

We received a call early this morning from one of the vets at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center, checking up on the little fella. I told the doctor that everything seems fine. He assured me that they (at DVSC) felt comfortable that the bacteria in Ojay's ear would not be a problem as far as our other dogs are concerned, and I told him that we were taking every precaution not to let Ojay come into contact with any of the other dogs here. The doctor again told me that we could have Ojay's stitches removed by our local vet, which we are doing today.

Ojay seems very happy and very much enjoys his outings in the park.

The donated microscope is on its way!

The woman (whose name is Melissa) who had called about possibly finding us a microscope called again last evening saying her husband had found a microscope they will donate to us, and they will ship it to us via UPS right away. We thank them very, very much! We're all looking forward to checking stool samples ourselves, saving $15 a pop on this procedure.

Kennel Team Members, Michael and Bobby, shovel a load of sand into Kerry's kennel

This kennel, which we moved to a new location over a week ago, had a lot of grass burrs (aka "stickers") in it, so yesterday we added a layer of sandy dirt to cover up the stickers and spare Kerry the pain of stepping on the them.

Bobby heaves a shovelful of sandy dirt into Kerry's kennel.

Don't forget Saturday Adoption Day

We'll again be at the PetsMart in Plano on Central at Parker Road from 10:30 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. The roster will include Sasha, Colby, Macy, Kerry and Shawna.
