Rudy is up to 52 pounds now!
Rudy weighed in at 46 pounds at the Dallas Diagnostic Clinic back on the fifth of this month, so by cutting down on his exercise and increasing his food intake more than threefold, the one-year-old fella is gaining weight pretty fast, and he's looking very good.
Erin talked with Dr. Reeves yesterday afternoon, and this veterinarian's take now on Rudy's weight loss is that the entire problem could very well have been hookworms. What could have happened (per Dr. Reeves) is that when the hookworm larvae migrated through the liver, Rudy could have had an allergic reaction (like the reactions some have to antibiotics). This could have thrown off the protein figures, messing up the kidney readings. The doctor advised that we stay the course we're on now, and he added that if ever there was a dog who could use the hormone test (that Dr. Reeves suggested before) it would be Rudy, because this is an immune system related problem. After this test we would see where Rudy could be supported. Also the daily heartworm preventive (rather than the monthly) would help stop the hookworm larvae from possibly causing the problem again. Dr. Reeves said this hormone test would cost Straydog $250.

Rocky ate his breakfast this morning and passed brown stools during his outing in the park
This old guy (he's at least 10) is looking a lot better and had a good appetite this morning--really the first time in several days that he has wanted to eat. He seems to be on the mend.
The weather has changed from winter (last weekend) to spring today
The sun's shining, the temperature is in the 60s, and the dogs are panting and lying in the shade.
