Sassy Old Katie is slipping

Yesterday Katie had a lot of trouble walking. During her outings in the park she would just lie down and wait to go back to her kennel. She spent the night in the warmth of one of the hospital kennels (as she does every cold night), but this morning at seven o'clock she was standing up panting and was obviously too warm, so we put her back out in her outside kennel.

Katie rests in her outside kennel yesterday afternoon while Juana and Erin comfort her.

Katie walks around her inside "hospital" kennel this morning.

We'll watch her closely today (as we do every day) and may make the dreaded decision this afternoon.

Molly's going to the eye specialist this afternoon at three

I'll be leaving at 1:15 in order to get there on time, as the clinic is 90 miles away. We are happy that Molly's blood work checked out okay (as we reported Monday), and we will report on Dr. Paulsen's findings in tomorrow's update.

Rocky ate his entire breakfast this morning

It looks like this old fella is going to be okay.

A woman calls saying her neighbors moved away and left their dogs behind

This should be an easy one for the police, but some of the police out in the country don't know that it's illegal to abandon pets. One time Pat called the police about some people who had moved away leaving one dog in the yard. The police came out while Pat was waiting in front of the vacant house. When the police arrived, they said to open the gate and let the dog go free. Hard to believe but true! Needless to say, Pat dismissed the Police without even attempting to argue, and she rescued the dog herself. Pat named that dog Little Lassie, and she lived in one of the original kennels with Sandy until her death from pancreatic cancer last summer.

So now we've got to try to figure out what to do with this family of dogs. The woman said there's the mother (a Chow) and the father (an Akita) and six pups, who were born after the parent dogs were abandoned. We'll report more on this story tomorrow.

Rudy weighs 58 pounds this morning!

Yesterday we reported his weight at 52 pounds, but now I'm told that that was from the Friday weighing. So he's gained six more pounds in four days.

Also we're going to have the hormone test suggested by Dr. Reeves done on Rudy. Gayle, our contributor who's done so much for Straydog already, emailed us yesterday saying she would cover the expense of the test. Thanks so much, Gayle!
