Somehow kennel mates Scottie and Shawna mated this morning!
How can this be?
Scottie has been here for several years, and although for some unknown reason we cannot find his medical file in Pat's dog files, there's no way he hasn't been neutered. We called Morton Small Animal Clinic, and their records show he's a seven-year-old, neutered male.
Shawna is one of the six dogs we took in from the Plano foster home that was being shut down a few months ago, and they assured us Shawna had been spayed, and her paper work from them says Shawna is a spayed female.
Whatever the history of these two kennel mates, Shawna's on her way to the vet to be spayed as I type, and Scottie will be making a trip to the clinic next week to find out what could have happened in his case.

We thought early this morning that today would be Katie's last day, but ...
Again she showed a desire to go to the park, and she walked all around seeming to enjoy her stroll. Then with some hand-feeding help she ate a bowl of food. This is such a hard decision to make when you're not sure.
Jasmine and her two babies are doing fine
Still no word from the original caller who told us about this (or another) abandoned family of dogs.
The pups are starting to enjoy some of the gravy we pour over their mother's food, though she's growling at them to keep them away from her bowl till she's had her fill. We'll start them on what Pat called "puppy mush," which is puppy food mixed with water and blended in a food processor.
