Katie went to vet for her second treatment; Sandy went for a bad cough
Tina (one of our caregiver/kennel team members) made the long drive to and back from Dr. Reeves' clinic in Tyler yesterday afternoon, and here's a summary of her report:
Katie
Dr. Reeves said that Katie's eye is looking better. And the acupuncture treatments seem to be enabling Katie to walk much better, and she appears to be feeling much better. The doctor wants to see Katie again next Tuesday.

Sandy
Sandy's had a cough for a few days, which many of the dogs have from time to time, but Sandy's cough wasn't getting any better. In fact it was getting worse, so we took him to Dr. Reeves along with Katie.

Dr. Reeves' diagnosis was that either Sandy is suffering from allergies or he has a throat infection. The doctor prescribed a series of five injections of an antibiotic, the first of which Dr. Reeves himself gave to Sandy. We are to give Sandy the other four injections (one per day over the next four days) the same way we give Julie her insulin shots: we hold up the skin on the back of the neck and stick the needle through the loose skin. There is no sensation--no pain.
Dr. Reeves also heard a thudding noise in Sandy's heart. He tested Sandy for heartworms, and the results were negative, so we will keep our eye on this new heart condition of Sandy's. Also Dr. Reeves found that Sandy has a bad case of hook worms, and we've got the wormer for that and will administer it to Sandy.
Tina took our newly donated microscope along with her to show Dr. Reeves
Dr. Reeves said it was a very good microscope, and he got it ready for us to use and gave Tina some fecal float solution to get us started. He also ordered us another bottle of the solution. (We've still got to set up a time for Pam B. to come out and show us how to use the microscope.)
