NOON UPDATE:
A rescue is in the works
Jack Jones, a long-time supporter of Straydog and the man who rescued Black Lab Jack back in '97, a beautiful dog who was adopted by the Grisak family back in '99, called me last night pleading with me to come up to his house once again (seven years later) and try to rescue another dog. This one is either a nursing mother or a mother-to-be, and Jack has been feeding the dog for a few days now, but he can't get close to her. Because Jack and Pat were very close friends who corresponded frequently, I told Jack we'd send a couple of our caregivers up to his house in Oak Cliff today to see if they could rescue the poor dog. Tina and Susan left before noon, and we'll report on the results of this rescue mission later. I told Jack that if Tina and Susan determine that the female dog has already given birth to her pups, and if they can't find the pups, they'll have to leave the mother (assuming they can rescue the mother, which may also be impossible).
Meanwhile we'll try to figure out what we can do with the mother and her pups if Tina and Susan do rescue them. We have no kennel space available and no money for fencing right now. Juana is working on a plan as I type. We'll probably have to board them at the clinic until we can secure more kennel space.
Our March newsletter, which will probably be called our April newsletter, is done!
I finished the second (and last) four-page document last evening and am now going over and over it making last-minute corrections and changes. I will probably post all three parts of the mailing on this website this evening and ask that you, our readers, make any possible comments via email before we go to press. I don't know what time tonight I'll get the newsletter posted, but it should be on this website by tomorrow morning.
www.Straydog.org was mentioned yesterday in Larry Powel's Pet Blog

8:30 P.M. UPDATE:
Tina and Susan rescued the dog, who's still pregnant, ... we think
The Pit Bull/Lab mix Jack Jones asked us to rescue is at Morton's Small Animal Clinic now, and she's okay. The full story of the rescue and the advanced posting of the soon-to-be-printed newsletter will come in the "Saturday Noon Update."
We're contemplating translating the daily updates into Spanish and posting in both languages
I can't keep up with the two updates per day now, and Juana and I are talking about translating the text and captions into Spanish every day. Can you imagine trying to keep up with that--an English and a Spanish version every day? ... Some day we'll do it.
Juana told me that the stray dog problem in Mexico is far, far worse than it is here in the United States, and they need to see what we're doing at Straydog and what needs to be done worldwide: A BIG, MASSIVE SPAY & NEUTER CAMPAIGN.
A lot of Juana's friends and relatives in Mexico check our website for new photos of the dogs (and of Juana) every day, but most can't read the English text. They've all learned the phrase "PHOTOS TO COME" and are disappointed by it every time I use it, Juana said.
