Erin's Saturday Adoption Day Report ...

Rover and Kerry tentatively adopted at Saturday Adoption Day

   Rover

A young lady who has been emailing us regularly inquiring about Rover came in to meet Old Rovie today. She saw Rover's little skip when he walks, which our caregiver, Tina, said is because of his hip dysplasia. We'll be talking to Erica even more before her move to her new apartment and about all the things we know about our little Rover, but she seems to really want this old fella who's been here for many years!

Erica pets Rover as she prepares to fill out the adoption papers.

For $20/month Erica said she can get pet insurance which would cover $1,000 worth of a major problem like cancer, she told us. She's had older dogs in her family before and wants to be prepared for any situation that might come up. Erica is a college student and most every day will be able to come home between classes to walk Rover often during the day.

   Kerry

A really nice fellow would like a companion for his husky mix. This gentleman likes Kerry and Kerry likes Walter, the male husky-mix, real well! We did a home visit and remembered to tell this gentleman that Kerry is a digger! Walter has been digging too ever since his former companion, a border collie-mix, died two weeks ago from cancer. Walter's guardian had begun to put up an electric wire around part of his fence, which has worked keeping Walter away from the edges of the fence. But more needs to be done, because Walter is finding more spots to chew and dig around the fence. Walter's guardian hopes that having a new friend will keep Walter from wanting to dig out, and the guardian wants to wait till the whole fence is more secure before he takes on a new digger! He plans to get this fence work finished this week and come back for Kerry next Saturday. Walter sleeps on his guardian's bed at night, but during the day when he's at work, the doggies would be outside with the yard, patio and garage to hang out in.

Walter meets Kerry.

   Grace and Foxy

Someone may be back to look at Grace again next week and also Foxy!

Volunteer Angela gives Grace a kiss.

   Annie

We also helped a woman who tried to place a little Terrier mix she's named Annie, who had been dumped near her home over the holidays in December. Annie may have found her forever home too today.

All in all, it was a pretty good Adoption Day with a lot of prospective homes!

Jordan gets attention from two volunteers. That's Malia on the right; we still don't know the name of the other young lady.

My thoughts on publishing this website in Spanish bring an offer to help

Thanks, Consuelo, for your offer to help. I can tell from the email you wrote (in Spanish) that you're more than capable of doing the job. We will have to get a keyboard with the accent mark and the tilde. I think the first thing we'll do is translate the three pieces of the upcoming newsletter. Later on we'll start thinking about doing the daily. If I had time, I would love to do this myself, but I'm sure I'd have to have either you or Juana go over my translation and fix a lot of stuff. As soon as I finalize the newsletter and release the three pieces to print, you'll be more than welcome to start in on the project--if you can spare the time. Thanks for the offer!

Thanks to Pam B. (and others) for your generous early donations via credit card!

I hope you all know how grateful we are for your financial (and moral) support. Every time we begin to run out of the necessary funds to run this place, I think, "What if our contributors (for whatever reason) can't help us keep our lifeboat afloat this time?" I look out at all the dogs enjoying their stay here at our Happy Home for Strays, and I begin to panic. Your early donations give me the encouragement to just keep on going full speed ahead.

with alternating periods of still frames from Pat Arnold's 1998 video

The late Pat Arnold's
1998 Straydog Video

Still frames of Pat's 1998 video (without sound) can be viewed by clicking on this Webcam link. Whenever this tape is rewinding, this link leads to five rotating live cameras trained on various sections of our Straydog campus so you can keep an eye on what's going on here at Straydog. Our son, Joe, is in the process of securing an Internet "radio station" (which will cost Straydog Inc. only $15 per month), and Joe will have the streaming audio of Pat's tape "on the air" at night and audio from our walkie-talkie system "on the air" during the day. After the tape has been edited and copies are made (VHS or DVD), we'll be happy to send you a free copy. Just let us know if you'd like a copy, and please specify VHS or DVD.

Here are four still photos I pulled off the video by right-clicking on the captured still frames. We encourage viewers to do the same thing and email us any really good photos:

The above photos are stills pulled from Pat's video. At eight frames per second there should be approximately 57,600 such still frames on the two-hour tape, and every time the tape is replayed, an entirely new set of 240 different stills is captured and broadcast, a new frame every 30 seconds.
