Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog Log

MONDAY MARCH 29 2004

I've released to print the three pieces of our upcoming mailing

Merrill Corporation, my former employer, is producing our newsletter free of charge, which will save Straydog Inc. about $400, and we are very grateful to them. Just a few years ago I had to drive the ready-to-print master to Dallas and literally hand the pages to the printer to print from. Now the print prep guys just pull off the PDF files via the links at the top of this Homepage, and from those files they make the plates and start printing--photos and all.

Explaining the above process to you reminds me of a call we received after the December newsletter had been mailed. A woman phoned asking that we fax her a copy of the newsletter so she could make copies and send them to all her friends. That used to be the only way to get quick, extra copies to people, and as most of you probably know a lot of the quality of a document is lost via the fax, and then the quality degenerates even further when copies of the fax are made. I explained to the woman that all she has to do is click on the links to the newsletter, and then click the print button, and perfect copies will come out of her computer printer--no quality loss whatsoever.

If you have a big enough list of people to pass out (or mail out) our newsletter to, you can simply call your local copy center (a Kinko's, for example) and tell them to go to this website (www.Straydog.org) and print out as many copies as you want of the three pieces via the links at the top of the Homepage. Then you can have the copy shop ship the copies to you or you can go pick them up and start your own mailing. (And please never worry about the copyright of our website materials. We want as many people as possible to make copies and distribute them!)

Thanks to Ofelia for volunteering her Saturday to help us move files

As you may remember Ofelia donated several file cabinets to Straydog a few weeks ago, and now we're in the process of moving our 2400+ contributor files from the old plastic file boxes (Pat used to keep them in) into the new file cabinets. Ofelia has also offered to help us with our newsletter mailing later on this week. We thank you very much, Ofelia!

We'll be picking up Jackie, the Jack Jones rescue, from our vet clinic this afternoon

Michael and Susan have come in on their day off to build the new kennel for Jackie, and when they've got it finished, we'll go get Jackie and bring her home to Straydog.

Dr. Morton did the new arrivals checkup on Jackie: She's got a severe case of whip worms which we'll get rid of with Panicur. The results of the heartworm test are not back yet. The doctor doesn't think Jackie is pregnant, which would mean that she's already had her babies since her breasts were enlarged. I've been trying to call Mr. Jones (who doesn't have voice mail or an answering machine) all morning to ask him to get all his neighbors involved and go out and search for the hidden puppies. It is possible, of course, that the puppies have already been rescued or have run off on their own. More to come on this story. ...

Later I got through to Mr. Jones, and he said he and his neighbors had scoured the neighborhood looking for the puppies, and they will check again and call if they find them.
