SUNDAY APRIL 11 2004

No adoptions yesterday; no word on the pending adoptions from last week

Lots of traffic and action at PetsMart, but we couldn't match up any would-be adopters with any of the sweet and wonderful dogs and pups we took to PetsMart.

Baby Girl lies on her back with Tina while Sue Knudsen cares for Jeannie.

Holly and Grace

Jeannie wants to get to know Jordan.

Jordan's still not sure of this new friend.

Jeannie wants to play!

All of the newsletters are ready to mail

We'll drop them off at the post office tomorrow, and they'll go out tomorrow evening. All of our people--volunteers and employees--spent every spare moment over the past two days, and we got mailing pieces all stuffed, sealed, labeled and stamped. We'll know "our fate" in a few days. Yesterday's dog food purchase came to $400.26, which will last us one week.

We were very sorry to hear that the dog Chantal was trying to rescue was picked up by Dallas Animal Control and killed before Chantal could rescue the poor fella

May your soul, sweet, innocent doggie, be forevermore with Pat and God. You are Home at last.

Billy Lawson and Claudia Sprowso update us on Abby and Willow

BILL,
I RECEIVED THIS E-MAIL THIS MORNING. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD FORWARD TO YOU. IT IS FROM CLAUDIA , ONE OF THE LADIES WHO HELPED ME RESCUE A&W.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING,

BILLY LAWSON

Forwarded Message:

From: "Claudia Sprowso" <csprowso@swbell.net>
To: "Billy Lawson" <clawson04@aol.com> (plus Amy Jones, the foster mom, and other recipients)
Subject: Abbster & Willow Weekend Getaway
Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2004 20:52:13 -0500

I've spent the day in and out of Amy's house dropping off A&W and then going back to take their rabies tags and snap more photos. Mitch (my husband) took his nail gun and tightened up her fence and fixed the latch on her gate as security insurance. (Amy, thank you for letting us sort of barge into your space.)

The girls (A&W) started out on the patio and seemed content, but as the day grew warmer, Amy brought them inside. Abby enjoys lounging on Amy's couch and Willow is making fast friends with Amy's dog, Kylie. As a matter of fact, we've decided Willow is probably a little more active playing with Kylie then she needs to be, so Amy is working on keeping things nice and calm. Abby is a
little grumpy when Kylie gets too close (NOT Kylie's fault), so Amy can't risk leaving them all together without supervision. Abby is very thin (emaciated) and doesn't have any extra energy, so she is lying down most of the time.

Amy's house is wonderful, and her patio and back yard are an outstanding setup for the dogs' comfort. At this point, this weekend is a trial period to see if Amy is comfortable fostering for a longer period. So far, she says they've been really good and their potty habits have been perfect. If Amy agrees to keep them for a few weeks, she would be grateful if we continue to search for another foster situation since she really doesn't have time to manage them any longer than necessary.

Amy and I will visit on Sunday night and see if we need to find another foster ASAP or if we have a little more time. I'll keep you all posted!

Please keep Amy's brother, Tim, in your prayers as he is a soldier in Iraq right now and a constant concern to Amy and her family.

Happy Easter,
Claudia

The recsue and rehabilitation of Abby and Willow are truly going well so far

We need more Billy Lawsons and Claudia Sprowsos and Amy Joneses to help take some of the burden off of Straydog and other no-kill shelters when we're full and adoptions are slow and there are no vacancies in sight. With more of this kind of volunteer help we can all save a lot more dogs.

As soon as a kennel opens up here at Straydog, we'll be contacting Billy and Claudia to see if Abby and Willow still need a home.

April 2004 Newsletter

The following three pieces of our newsletter are being printed now.

Our mailing to the 2580 names on our mailing list will commence as soon as we receive the finished product from the printer, Merrill Corporation, who's donating the printing of the newsletter and the envelopes.

(1) April Newsletter, First 4-Pager

(2) April Newsletter, Second 4-Pager

(3) April Newsletter, a Front & Back, 2-Page Flyer

If you, dear reader, have a big enough list of people to pass out (or mail out) our newsletter to, you can simply call your local copy center (a Kinko's, for example) and tell them to go to this website (www.Straydog.org) and print out as many copies as you want of the three PDF files via the above three links. Then you can have the copy shop deliver the copies to you or you can go pick them up and do your own mailing of our three-piece newsletter. (And please never worry about the copyrights to our website materials. We want as many people as possible to make copies and distribute them!)
