Bill Arnold's Daily Straydog Log

MONDAY MAY 31 2004

NOON UPDATE

Mid morning one year ago today Pat suffered her first brain aneurysm, followed by the second fatal aneurysm in the afternoon

For some reason I didn't think today was going to be so difficult. I thought I was going to be strong. I had a whole lot to say, but I can't say it. I, as well as all of Pat's dogs (along with everyone else here at Straydog and many, many other friends, family members and loved ones everywhere) sure miss Pat. I still can't believe she's gone, and I just don't understand it.

From a year ago ...

Before she lost consciousness forever after suffering a brain aneurysm, Pat Arnold spoke
these final words to her kennel team members: "
Take care of my dogs while I'm gone."

Another 63-year-old dog rescue person, Angie (whom we've mentioned a lot lately), will take the two skinny Shepherd mix pups found living under a bus stop bench in West Dallas

Angie called last night and said that the woman who found the Shepherd mix puppies abandoned at a bus stop had just called Angie and told her she was out of dog food and didn't have money to buy more. On Saturday when Erin and Tina stopped by to worm the puppies, they thought they'd left enough food for the puppies to last for four days, not even knowing that the woman wasn't able to buy food, but I guess Erin and Tina didn't leave enough! The good news is that the little female puppy has eliminated a tremendous amount of dead worms in her bowel movements after receiving the Strongid-T, and the pup has regained her appetite.

Another rescue group will be dropping off more food in today, and Volunteer Holly will be picking up the puppies to take them to Angie's rescue house late this afternoon or early this evening.

"I can't take in any more after these," Angie said firmly (which Pat had said to me many times including the morning of May 31, 2003). "But that's what I always say," Angie reflected in a sad, quieter voice. "It is so sad when you seem them on the street. You can't save them all, I keep telling myself! I try to take in the ones with mange, though, because I know they are suffering."

Thank you, Angie, for taking in these starving Shepherd mix puppies. We'll try our best to help you adopt them out!
