NOON UPDATE
Patch's leg is better today

Erin' s report of 10:00 Thursday night ...
Patch is putting weight on his repaired leg again
Patch seems to be doing very well. He is putting weight on his leg again, maybe not the same amount that he had been before the limping began. But he isn't limping much. We'll see how things look in the morning. We'll at least be able to tell Dr. Arnold that Patch's leg seems okay. But I don't know about operating on his other leg in five or six days!
Patch deserves a nice home with a nice family who will love him. When I took Patch for short walks today and we met someone walking on the sidewalk, Patch wanted to greet the stranger and give him/her a kiss. After a person would pass us, Patch would stop and sit and watch the person walk away, not ready to let the person go out of his sight or mind. He wants to love and play with everyone. Patch is so playful that he may need some PetsMart training to help him learn not to 'mouth' in play, because of those sharp teeth!
I'll be taking Patch back to Straydog sometime tomorrow (Friday).
Visit with a holistic vet
My visit with Dr. Shawn Messioneir was good today. I got supplements for both Toby and Patch's conditions. I talked to the doctor about various other dogs, and the doctor was generous with his time and discounted the charges by a nice percentage because we are a rescue. Thank you Dr. Shawn!
Erin's Friday morning report ...
Patch is doing okay but still limpling
Patch enjoyed a long period outdoors in the cool of the morning. He likes to stretch out in the grass. When he walks, he wants to lick the grass, wet from the morning dew or lawn sprinklers. Patch's repaired leg is pretty much the same as it was yesterday. Patch is using it but still quite gingerly.
My husband, Dana, petted Patch quite a bit this morning and saw that the dog needs a little training. Maybe while Patch is at Straydog, we'll be able to teach the rambunctious fellow not to mouth. Maybe we can take Patch to Adoption Day so he can join in on their Saturday training class if it wouldn't excite him too much!
It would be wonderful for Patch to find a nice family foster home, or forever home, even while he's recovering from his surgeries. He's a good boy, and perfectly crate-trained. I took him out at 9:30 p.m. last night, and he didn't make another sound all night. At 7:00 a.m. we went outside for a morning stroll. Then, I fed Patch and gave him his supplements and anti-inflammatory medicine, and we went outside again so he could walk some more and lie in the grass. Patch loves my dog, Rosie. Patch is a real 'lover' of others--dogs and humans.
Gretchen will be going to Pam and Gary Bollinger's for a home visit Saturday morning
Pam would have liked us to bring Gretchen to her home today, but we're all tied up and won't be able to introduce Gretchen to the Bollinger's other two older dogs adopted from Straydog some time ago, Dallas and Maggie. Gretchen is such a docile, gentle big old German Shepherd that we're already almost sure that the adoption will work. We'll know for sure tomorrow.
Don't forget Saturday Adoption Day
We'll probably be posting the roster in the morning.
