SATURDAY JUNE 26 2004
8:30 A.M. UPDATE
Roster for Saturday Adoption Day at PetsMart in Plano
(1) Foxy; (2) Kerry; (3) Puppy Scooby; (4) Puppy Louise; and (5) Baby Girl. The van will be leaving Straydog at nine o'clock with Erin driving and Caregiver Michael riding along with her today to assist Erin and the volunteers handling the dogs.
Update on Parvo pups
Puppy Summer ate a little during the night, had good stools during one bowel movement and runny stools during a second one. She wags her tail when she sees a caregiver and seems to be holding her own. Her three sisters haven't shown any more signs of Parvo.
Update on Blackie
Dr. Morton took x-rays of Blackie's lungs and heart yesterday. Blackie's heart is enlarged and he has fluid build-up around his heart and lungs, for which Dr. Morton prescribed and dispensed some medicines.

Little old Blackie is getting old. He's been with us for more than 12 years, and he wasn't a very young dog when Pat rescued him at the tail end of a pack of strays who were passing by our house before we moved to our current Straydog location. Little Blackie had been trying to keep up with the pack of big stray dogs, and when Pat finally got out there to see what she could do, the other dogs had moved quickly on down our street. Blackie was too weak and sick to go on. He just sat at the end of our driveway waiting for Pat to come and scoop him up. Blackie spent several weeks in our house recovering from a bad liver condition, and then he spent the next 10+ years as Pat's special little fella, who slept under the covers with her.
Blackie still sits in front of the sliding glass door looking out waiting for Pat to come home. And when Juana, Tina and/or Erin arrive in the morning, Blackie greets each of them almost as if she were Pat.

This morning Randy, our overnight man, reported that Blackie coughed a lot during the night and didn't have an appetite during the early feeding, leaving most of his breakfast untouched. We're all watching Blackie very closely.
