Subject: WE WOULD LIKE TO PAY FOR TOBY'S CART
Hi,
My husband and I visit your website almost everyday. We are so moved by your dedication to Pat's mission. I can say with confidence that she is extremely proud of all of your hard work. We would love to pay for Toby's cart -- it would really be "gift to us" to participate in your effort in this small way. Please contact me at your earliest convenience so we can arrange the payment.
All the best to you and all of your wonderful four-legged angels.
Warmly,
Catherine and Randy M.
p.s. you can also call us directly at 212/xxx-xxxx.
Messages like the above make me sit down and cry
I'm constantly worrying myself to death (literally) that if kind and generous people like Catherine and Randy M. ever stop helping us, I may someday not even be able to feed Pat's dogs. That is an overwhelming fear that I cannot seem to shake. Straydog is so expensive to run--even though we try to scrimp and scrimp and scrimp every way we can. (Straydog's complete Federal Income Tax Returns, by the way, have been posted for years by a non-profit watchdog organization called GuideStar.org, where you can see just how expensive running our no-kill shelter is.)
We thank Catherine and Randy for their extremely generous contribution!
Here are some more photos of Toby being measured for his cart:

Larry Powell's column today in The Dallas Morning News is entitled: "These old dogs are in need of some new humans to love"
In his piece today Larry includes a good quote from Sigrid Mureen of a rescue group called Sheltie Haven: "What we need are people who will take in these old dogs and give them homes for the rest of their lives. No adoption fee--just a promise of love and care for these wonderful guys. By the time they reach 10, dogs have such lovely, developed personalities. If they've had any bond with humans, they are amazingly responsive. ... We need folks who are willing to give them an indoor home because they should be monitored in case physical problems do appear and because they deserve an indoor home."
At Straydog we've sure got a bunch of older dogs waiting to be adopted. Pam and Gary Bollinger have made a wonderful home for three of our older dogs: Maggie, Dallas and most recently Gretchen. We are forever grateful to the Bollingers for their extreme generosity and extreme kindness to these older dogs who will live out the rest of their days with the Bollingers.
